Today I share with you my visit to the 9 april Armory museum, a very unique place located in Old Havana. To be more precise, it is located on the first floor of one of the most striking buildings on Mercaderes Street, between Lamparilla and Obrapía.
I came to this place on the recommendation of a friend, who was a regular visitor, as he is a lover of sport hunting and all the activities and accessories used for that purpose. He always told me that it is a small place but with many interesting pieces.
In the old days, the place was an armoury that belonged to the Cuban Arms Company, so the fact that this place was chosen to establish the museum gives it a lot of symbolism. It also sold objects used for fishing.

The name of the place was chosen because on that date, April 9th, but in 1958, a group of young people assaulted the place to acquire weapons with the aim of confronting the struggles that were taking place in the country at that time, and exactly on that day they intended to take Havana. As a tribute, photographs of the assailants, as well as documents and personal objects, are exhibited in the museum.
In the museum there is a temporary room, which currently exhibits a very interesting collection of Spanish knives. These knives have metal work on their handles, made with extreme delicacy.

The 9 april Armory museum has been declared a National Monument, so its historical value is incalculable. The permanent collection is made up of weapons that, when the museum was still an armoury, were for sale; and many of them are used for sport hunting. Others were used during the period of the wars of independence.
The variety of items displayed in the place is incredible, although I must admit that what surprised me the most was the impressive gold-toned registered box on top of one of its showcases.

There are some murals in the premises with valuable information: among other information, they reflect historical data about the building and about the event that took place on April 9th.

Undoubtedly, this place in Havana preserves objects with a high historical value, so I recommend it as one of the places to visit if you visit the Cuban capital.

This is a very interesting museum! The guns remind me of the old times when national heroes would fight for the country until their last breath.
