Galatasaray 19 şampiyonlukla yerel kupayı en çok müzesine götüren takım ancak son yıllarda bu kupaya verilen değer azalmıştı. Teknik direktörler lige önem verip kupada genç oyuncuları oynatıyordu bu yüzden 6 yıldır bir yerel kupa kazanılmamıştı. İlginçtir ki bu yıl da Galatasaray neredeyse eleniyordu. Grup ikincisi olarak üst tura yükselirken 3. ile puanı ve averajı eşitti. Sadece 3. olan takımdan daha az sarı kart gördüğü için yani fair play dolayısıyla 2. oldu ve üst tura yükseldi. Sonrasında Fenerbahçe ile eşleşti ve onunla ilgili bir gönderiyi zaten paylaşmıştım. Herkes Fenerbahçe'nin bu maçı rahatlıkla kazanacağını düşünüyordu ama Galatasaray bir kere daha beklentilerin üstüne çıkan takım oldu. Son birkaç yılı düşündüğümde her seferinde çok önemli dönüm noktalarında Galatasaray kazanmayı başarıyor.
