Doing (or not doing) a Puzzle - Yapboz Yap(ama)mak [EN-TR]

Since we don't live in a very big place, our biggest entertainment is going to the supermarket and buying things we like from the discounted items there. A week ago, my wife and I were shopping at the market, and I saw a puzzle. I hadn't done a puzzle in a very long time and wanted to buy one. Today, I'll tell you about a puzzle adventure we had, or rather, didn't have.

I suggested buying a puzzle to my wife, but she said that a 1000-piece puzzle was too small and that we should buy a 10,000-piece puzzle. We talked about it a bit there, and I suggested buying it if the puzzle cost less than 100 TL. She agreed, and we went to the checkout. The puzzle cost 80 TL, which I thought was an extremely cheap price. Less than 2 dollars! So we bought the puzzle and went home.

We were very excited about the puzzle at home and started working on it. My wife was desperately trying to put the pieces together, and I asked her what she was trying to do. That's when I realized that my wife had never done a 1000-piece puzzle before. When he asked for a 10,000-piece puzzle at the store, I thought he was very experienced, but he was just overconfident, haha. Later, we made a plan together, and I suggested that it would make sense to do the corners and edges first.

We sorted out the corners and edges of the 1,000-piece puzzle, which took quite a while. Then we started putting the pieces together. That took a lot of time too, but it was fun. Only that night my head hurt a lot, and I hadn't expected it to be so difficult. My wife, despite her lack of experience, was much more successful and enthusiastic about puzzles than I was. She put the pieces together much faster than I did. Everything was fine for a while, but it was too quiet. Do you know what we realized? Our cat was nowhere to be found.

After 3-4 hours, we finished the corners, but it would take much more time to continue, and we had to store the puzzle somewhere during this process. We looked for a place in the house where our cat couldn't reach it, but we couldn't find one. The only place we could find was on top of the washing machine in the bathroom. We kept it there for a few days, but eventually, she got into the bathroom and scattered the pieces. We also found a few pieces under the table and realized that we couldn't finish this puzzle in this house.

Influenced by Pamuk, our beloved guardian of the house, we gathered the puzzle and put the pieces back in the box. That's how our adventure of doing a 1000-piece puzzle began and ended. I'm happy we had a good time, even if it was only for a few hours.

Thank you for reading; I hope you enjoyed it. I remember @mipiano sharing a puzzle on Hive before; I hope I'm not mistaken. How many days do you think it would take to complete this puzzle, @mipiano? 😂

Yes, if jigsaw puzzle, then it was me haha 😆
Our cats (my niece's cats) were also "helpers" in the puzzle adventures 🤦‍♀️ 🤣

Btw, that was a good idea to start with the corners and edges. 👍 A pity you didn't complete it this time... but winter and cold weather are coming, when you have a few free days then it's the time to try it again and enjoy in this very nice summery scene 😀

Yes, when we move into our new home—and hopefully it will be bigger with more rooms—our cat will be running around in other rooms while we comfortably finish this puzzle. She's a bit of a mischievous cat, taking the pieces and running off with them. Thanks for stopping by, mipiano.

Puzzles are one of our family winter activities. 1000 is the usual piece count. The Mother Thing and I joined a puzzle event a while ago, with a stranger added to our team, and we completed a 500 piece puzzle in less than 2 hours.

Finishing 500 pieces in two hours is pretty fast. But as I mentioned in a comment above, I think these times increase exponentially. 1000 pieces takes much longer than 4 hours. My wife and I need to gain more experience at this. We plan to buy and do puzzles that are beautiful enough to hang on our wall.

Haha, I'm expecting you're still keeping the unfinished puzzle in some part of your house which will not be ruined by the cat. However, it appears that you have already surrendered. That's sad. 🙃

As I said, there's nowhere my cat can't find. So I've taken a break for now, but I'll finish it later.

Considering the disproportionate increase in the time required to put together a puzzle with more pieces, it is good that you did not take more than 1000 pieces (10000 pieces requires several months of work).

1000, maybe once, when the cat goes on annual vacation :-)

I received a gift box with 4x1500 pieces and I only assembled one.
It took me a few days. I would never try more than 2000 (given that I did not repeat the stacking of the remaining 3 of the 1500 pieces).

The time it takes to complete a puzzle increases exponentially with the number of pieces. So, if you can complete 100 pieces in an hour, you won't complete 1000 pieces in 10 hours; it could take 3-5 days.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I will complete this puzzle when we take our cat on vacation or move house, and I will share it here.

Wise choice ;^)

Puzzles are such a nice way to wind down in the evenings. I used to do them a bit more often, but these days I can't seem to find good ones that aren't just poorly made AI images blown up
