Hello everyone. Good evening and welcome to my blog. It's my first time on this platform, hope I'm welcomed.

I'm @imaima. A 300 level student of history and international studies. Really been busy this days, making history and writing history. It's exams period in school and there's one topic out of every course I have written so far that interests me and i decided to share with you hivians.

In strategic Studies in the 20th century, I've heard and read a lot about wars. But there's one war that catches my attention and I've been so interested in this particular topic. Its the cold war.

For the ones who don't have a clue, Cold war can be seen as a tension or rivalry between the United States and the Soviet Union. It is actually called and termed "cold" because it requires no military action. It is a war fought by strategy. Yes it was a war but the strategic reality of the cold war presented it as a "war " that "was not a war waged to stop a war from turning into a war.

There were strategies used to stop or deter each other from launching nuclear weapons on each other. This cold war was fueled by a lot of reasons.
Reasons like:

  • The Ideological differences (United States as capitalists vs. the Soviet union as the communists)
  • Post-WWII settlement and territorial disputes
-Nuclear weapons and the threat of mutually assured destruction
  • National security and global influence.

Strategies used included containment, propaganda and misinformation, proxy wars , economic competition, technological race.

The Cold War has really helped in shaping international relations and global events leaving a lasting impact on modern history.

Just like I said before, the cold war was fought without military action but rather strategy was used. I'm going talk about how these strategies can be seen and also related to the everyday happenings around us, that is it's relevance to contemporary social issues and concerns.

Social media and disinformation: How social media platforms can be used to spread false information, similar to the propaganda tactics during the Cold War-era.

Globalization and international relations: How the Cold War shaped international relations, globalization, and how some of the current events are influenced also by these dynamics.

Cultural exchange and soft power: The role of cultural exchange programs, art, and media in promoting soft power and ideological influence during the Cold War and today.

Lessons for contemporary conflicts: How Cold War strategies can relate approaches to resolve contemporary conflicts, such as cybersecurity threats and the rest.
