Allopurinol did reduce the uric acid level significantly from 9.75 ± 1.18 mg/dL (0.58 ± 0.07 mmol/L) to 5.88 ± 1.01 mg/dL (0.35 ± 0.06 mmol/L; P < 0.001). In 12 months, 4 of 25 patients (16%) in the allopurinol arm reached the combined end points of significant progression in renal function compared with 12 of 26 patients (46.1%) in the control group (P = 0.015)
