What I always look at, regarding those apps, is: do I really need them? lol. In most cases (95% of the time), I don't, and so also avoid delivering them personal data. Google has no "natural right" to know where I'm moving to - in many cases I hit the streets without carrying a phone.

The "second best choice", imho, is to use the OG app that Google stole their idea from: OpenStreetMap. I guess they don't have a time calculator integrated, but they're open source, hence we could create one for them 😉.

if they have buses and subways I’ll go use that! But there is no way you can get around some parts of Tokyo without some kind of map app.

well if you asked them they’d just pull out google maps and wonder why you didn’t hahah. I guess it’s fine if you want them to share their GPS in your stead.

The only alternative I can think of that doesn’t involve Google or Apple is to research every single train line in the area 😝 it would take over an hour
