Who You Are [Jessie J]

A very laid-back Tuesday for us. What a funny thing or perhaps a coincidence that we decided to make it a lazy one, the sky was grey all day. I was actually in the mood to do something else, but forgot all about it when I sat in front of the pc, lol.

Anyway, after trimming the LilGuy's facial hair in the afternoon (had a hard time as he doesn't want to have his coat touched), I went on to playing tunes just so I wouldn't sleep. And guess who I came across my feed?

Jessica Ellen Cornish, a.k.a Jessie J, the first British female artist to have six top-ten singles from a sole studio album. Whoa, what an achievement!

Truth is, it isn't my first-time encounter with her music but somehow, her songs kind of connected with my mood today. My three chosen tunes are all from her album Who You Are.

Her single below might be familiar to most people. If not, then this is the chance to check it out :)

Jessie J - Price Tag with B.o.B

The song was the second single on her studio album. Accordingly, it topped the charts in 19 countries when it was released over a decade ago. In addition, it peaked number one in 8 countries, and became the singer's biggest hit. Furthermore, it was the fourth bestselling song of the year, and the biggest-selling collab of the same year in the UK. That's quite a success, noh?

I love the upbeat, feel good tempo. It makes me want to sing along and yep, dance. Why not, when no one (except Yongi) is looking, lol!

Anyway, here is the second tune, another single on the album with the same title.

Jessie J - Who You Are

Per Wiki, this was written by the artist after her three-month lonely trip in LA when she was 20, so it is very personal to her, and I quote:

This song saved my life musically. The day before I wrote this song I was ready to give up music. It's amazing how three-and-a-half minutes of melody and lyrics can change your life and I'm so happy that not only has it saved my life but it's saving other people's. That's why my debut album is called Who You Are. ^(src)

It's amazing how loneliness bring out such a beautiful and touching song. She must have been really down during that time, stirring her raw emotions, hence the lyrics. It's okay not to be okay indeed.

I supposed most of us couldn't help but tap our feet or even wiggle our hips while listening to this dance-pop song, noh? I'm even singing on my mind while writing this I had to ssshhh it so I could finish the draft, lol! The beats are infectious and the melody? So catchy!

It's not surprising that it charted in the US Billboard 100, becoming the singer's first top ten single in the US in 2012 and selling over a million copies in the country on the same year.

So yep, Jessie J succeeded in making me awake whole afternoon. She's good!

I love how you described Jessie J’s music! Her songs from Who You Are always touch the heart and make you feel stronger. It’s nice to see someone else who enjoys her music the same way.

I really like how you connected Jessie J’s music with your own feelings. Her songs truly have a way of speaking to the heart, especially when you’re in a reflective mood. Who You Are is such a powerful album.

Price Tag had me tapping too and it actually saved me from a second coffee today :)
That line its okay not to be okay from Who You Are hits hard, I get that feeling too sometimes and it keeps you grounded.
Knowing she wrote it after that lonely stint in LA makes the m;usic feel raw and real, and yep it definetly shows.
Domino is pure sunshine on a grey day, perfect kind of energy when the sky says nap but you choose groove.
