Who Moved My Cheese

Yesterday afternoon was spent in the mini-greenhouse we are building in the backyard. There, I read an amusing story (fable) within a story that made me laugh to my heart's content as it revealed one profound truth after another about how most of us respond (or react) to changes that occur in our lives. I was guilty of them, eh!
I heard of the book the other day, and the title intrigued me, so naturally, I searched for it and found a recorded version of it in YouTube. It was a short read, only an hour long, but it's a true gem!
The parable of four characters who live in a maze (two mouse Sniff and Scurry, and two little people Hem and Haw) illustrates how we establish our routines, settle and become so comfortable, and then when change occurs, we resist it even when it is inevitable.
The story depicts how we overreact or overanalyze the situation, and instead of accepting it and moving on, we become frustrated or angry and often play the victim. We waste time and energy complaining and fretting. We blame others and stay in denial, stubbornly holding on to our beliefs and allowing our irrational fears to paralyze us. More often, the fear we build up in our minds is worse than what actually exists in the real world.
Changing our perspectives and letting go of old limiting beliefs encourages us to do something different and embrace or deal with change better. Well, it also shows what getting past our doubts means for us.
Hurray for change! as Haw (in the story) puts it. Other practical tips from the book include being flexible and not overcomplicating matters. Laughing at your own folly (not taking life too seriously). Anticipating and monitoring change to adapt to it quickly. Enjoying change and savoring the adventure.
And let me end this with a phrase from the parable that stuck with me:
If you do not change, you become extinct.
Change happens whether we like it or not. We fall behind when we resist it. I recommend checking the book out. It's a great read!

Had the chance to read this book many years ago. Reminds me of the thrill while reading it back then. thanks for the nostalgia ❤️ !BBH
That's nice to hear. I've only heard about it recently, but maybe it was the perfect time so I can laugh at myself, hehe.

I'm like cats, I hate when something in my routine gets changed 🤣
Haha, but you adapt nonetheless, yeah?
Yeah but still takes a while 🤣

Nice story! It reminds us that change helps us grow. Thanks for sharing!
That's right. Without change, life would be dull, wouldn't it?
Yeah, right.
Reminds me of one of the first lessons I got told CJ...
Move with the times or die!
That's blatant, but a great way to say it, Tito Ed :)
Hehe sometimes the truth hurts CJ!
Happy new month over there :)
Ohhh
I've read this book, quite a wonderful tale😂😂😂
The relationships between the characters and their names were too clever..
Awesomeness! And yes, the names fit so well with their characters 😁
I'm guilty of it too, I tend to overanalyze.. thanks for sharing
Overanalyzing doesn't do us any good :)
Yeah
It’s funny how we all see a bit of ourselves in this story. That whole cycle of resisting change, then finally adapting, it’s way too real lol
Haha yes. The truth stings, lol!
Sometimes I'm scared to face the changes also sis. But then nothing is permanent😑.
True sis, yon na lang isipin para di katakutan ang change. Nothing stays permanent.
I read this book as a kid and although I didn't really dwell on the message being passed then, I enjoyed the fun storyline. I've reread it now and honestly, it's a book I believe should be a must read for everyone.
That's awesome! Yes, It really should be endorsed and read in schools :)
I really do not understand why people have green house for plants
Do you have an idea and can you share it with me?
Plants grown in greenhouses are safer from pests and other creatures that usually destroy them. Also, they are easier to maintain than those grown in the open fields. For more advanced greenhouses, the temperatures and other things are controlled, so the plants grow better and are tastier.
