Whatta Bully

I was out in the yard late afternoon when the sky cleared up (it had been raining all night and all morning). While there, I heard a boy crying along the street below, but couldn't quite see what was going on because the shrubs, sunflowers, and trees obscured my view. It turned out his brother kept pulling his school bag from behind. It wasn't until I spoke that he stopped annoying his younger sibling, and they quietly walked home.

"What a bully," I thought while stepping back from the edge of the yard, and appreciating the purple blooms of the Glory Bush.

Then my eye caught something a few feet away, so I stepped closer and found this large fruit, almost hidden amongst the leaves. The hubby or one of the boys must have noticed it before and placed a sack under it so it won't be touching the ground directly.

We have two more in the open. If I'm not mistaken, one is almost mature based on its color. We have to start searching for pumpkin recipes to try in a week or two, it seems. I'm quite excited already!

Meanwhile, the beans might be nearing the end of their lifespan, as I didn't see any sign of new flowers. Sadly, we haven't had the chance to harvest more and enjoy the fruits because insects, ants, and snails bullied them terribly.

Anyway, we'll just let those remaining pods mature, so we will have something to grow next time.

The Lima beans, on the other hand, appear healthy at first glance. But a closer look revealed they are heavily infested with black aphids. Some of the leaves have holes in them, too. Might be worms, or something.

It's quite ironic that while the farms produce tons of crops for the wholesale markets, we are still buying greens for our table. I had been meaning to grow leafy ones - i.e., Romaine, Lettuce, Bok Choy, and even Spinach. Yet summer has come and gone, and I haven't done anything about it. I'm tempted to say "blame my hormones," but is that even an excuse? LOL!

Just crazy how I am becoming lazier by the day (low on energy and feeling tired even without doing much), especially during these monsoon months. "It's a sign of aging," the husband teases, quickly taking it back, saying it's just the season.

Maybe.

Anyhow, I'm just happy to have stepped out of the house today.

Aging and farming.

Just like we wod say Cat and Dog.

The most important thing is that when they are due to be harvested, there must be a way around it to do that.

On the other hand, thevdesire to have those pumpkins will always push one to plant new ones during the planting season or keep taking care of the existing ones.

Very insightful activity 👏 👌

Cat and Dog, that's an interesting way to put it :)

It's pretty easy to harvest the pumpkin fruits, as there are only a few of them, so no sweat😀 It would be nice if the current plant lasts longer. I wouldn't ask for more if it produces one fruit each month😍

Those purple blooms looks lovely. And the pumpkins, they are not fully ripped but growing so beautiful. We can grow many things but not everything that's why we go to the market which is okay in a way because due to this we remain a little connected with the world. :)
Monsoon and comfort make you feel lazy :D and btw, taking care of plants in the farm is no less tiring.

They are nice and lovely :)

You're right, though, we can't grow everything, so we must be thankful to have at least a few.

we go to the market which is okay in a way because due to this we remain a little connected with the world. :)

I love your perspective. It is indeed! We do it weekly, so that's a pretty good way to connect with others :)

It was quite a surprise to have more pumpkin fruits. That was at least a success for us, hehe.
Fortunately, the kid just smiled sheepishly and walked away.
Thanks for the tip. That might be what I needed.👍

I sometimes ponder about that too, nature giving us all these abundant blooms or flowering but not many end up making it to the harvesting stage. Maybe a lesson is there to be learnt with more pondering. The pumpkins look huge :)

That's a good observation. Nature teaches us a lot of things :)

Yes, the fruits are big, especially the one hiding amongst the greens.

I can really relate to this. Family moments mixed with the little wins and struggles of gardening feel so real. The rainy season does make us a bit lazy, but it also brings its own kind of peace and beauty.

That's very true. We don't win all the time, but at least we are still trying. The gloomy sky affects our mood, but it allows us to slow down and just be.

You went to see the cry baby but ended up seeing the growth of plants. The pumpkin seems ok and fine. Send it to me as a gift. I assure you that I won't mind.

Yes, it turned out that way😀

As for the pumpkin, the hubby gave the almost matured fruit to some folks who came the other day😂
