The Script

Magandang buhay!

Tuesday it is and before I go for my lil hibernation (off to my Mom's), let me share some tunes from The Script, an Irish pop-rock band that accordingly was formed in Dublin in 2001 by two best friends and former members of the band Mytown - Danny O'Donoghue and Mark Sheehan.

Accordingly, they produced and wrote songs for Britney Spears, Boyz II Men, and TLC in LA until they moved back to Dublin where they recruited drummer Glen Power for their new band The Script.

The band originally consisted of Danny as its frontman (lead vocals, guitar, piano, keyboards), Mark Sheen (guitar, vocals), and Glen Power (drums, percussion, backing vocals). Mark died in 2023. Last year, the group welcomed Benjamin Sargent (bass, backing vocals), and Ben Weaver (guitar).

The song below, my first recommendation for the day, was their second single in 2008.

The Script - The Man Who Can't Be Moved

This was one of the five single releases. It reached number 2 in Ireland, Denmark, and the UK, becoming the band's highest-charting single until their Hall of Fame topped the charts in 2012.

Speaking of, it is the second tune recommended for the day.

The Script ft. will.i.am - Hall of Fame

This was the lead single from their album #3 released in August 2012. Danny and the American rapper (will.i.am) met when they were judging in the Voice UK and that's when they collaborated on this song.

We went to the recording studio and an hour and a half later we had the song in its entirety. I thought he was going to produce it but he just gave it to me and Mark (Sheehan) and said 'you guys go and produce it'.(src)

This was the band's first UK number-one single, certified platinum in the US and their highest-charting song worldwide. It's also their most-viewed music video in YT with over 609 million.

The song's lyrics written by Danny, were described by The Guardian as the singer's real metier referring to him as "a striking and emotional storyteller." Billboard magazine reviewed the song as "a swelling, piano-driven number with an uplifting, earworm of a chorus that soars." (src)

And the third tune is one of their newest songs (2024).

The Script - At Your Feet

One of the singles included on their album "Satellites", their first after Mark's death. I thought it was a bit different from most of their songs but after playing it more than once, I realized it still has their style.

I do like their other older songs including Breakeven, Superheroes, The Last Time, Man on Wire, Nothing to name a few.

The Script won several awards between 2008 and 2014 and had various nominations from 2014 to 2018.

And there ends my recommendations for participation in the TTT initiative by Ablaze. Thank you lots and do tell if you liked any of them.
