The Quirino Arch & More

Hello, Friday!

The New Year is coming fast but before it does, let me share some artwork seen and photographed in Quirino, Ilocos Sur during our unplanned road trip on Christmas day. It was not our first time setting foot in the region so we were amazed when we saw the newly installed welcome arch as we descended toward the boundary. There were dogs too which made me wonder where they came from since we did not see any residence nearby.

My brother-in-law (my elder sister's husband) was having fun in the middle of the road when we arrived. They drive fast! And while I teased him that I was gonna upload on TikTok and Facebook (not that I am using both), I had none to show because he stopped dancing when we pulled over. So I did not have the chance to record him on video or at least on camera.😅

Anyways, these are the artwork on the arch's columns. Unfortunately, it did not occur to me to take photos of them up close so these were cropped from other pictures. They are bright and colorful so one couldn't miss them, even when driving fast.

We spent just about 10 minutes there and we continued with our adventure. I took the photos below (the other side of the arch) as we exited the place around mid-afternoon (3:38 pm). We didn't stop because we were excited to go for a swim, lol!

MIN-IYAMAN KAMI

A local phrase which means "thank you."

I have no information on who did the paintings. Perhaps a local artist who preferred to keep an anonymous profile. Not sure though since I did not examine the whole artwork up close. It did not even occur to me to photograph all sides of the arch pillars.

Meanwhile, I took this shot two hours earlier that day. The Farmboy didn't slow down but I'm thankful to have captured something from the single shot. I remember sharing about this wall two years ago during our first trip to the region. The baby, the little girl, and the Pochita (Chainsaw man) were not there before though, so they may have been added lately.

The doodles had also been re-colored, like the color of the boy's garments (shirt, shorts, and shoes) and even the curtain. The pic on the left was the old one.

And let me end this edition with the painted concrete landmark of the Namitpit viewpoint. My apologies for the poor quality of the pic though. I was scared my Lil Guy might fall (excuses, lol)😊

Thank you and until next time!

Beautiful street art, the mischievous dog got me smiling. Was it actually pulling at the boy's shorts?
Your Lil guy doesn't seem to be afraid of heights.

Haha, yeah. I think most who see it would laugh or smile at least :)

He was afraid his legs were wobbling so I ran back to him after the shot, lol!
