The Foursome Rebel Souljahz

Exploring other music genres has become a new hobby, thanks to the Three Tune Tuesday by Ablaze and partly because the husband often plays new tunes, introducing me to different melodies and yes, artists. Before, I usually listened to country, pop, and soft rock but that is not the case anymore. My preferences are changing, or rather, expanding.

Last time, we appreciated the Island Reggae from Maoli which is becoming (or probably has become) a genre of its own. Through that, we discovered more tunes that we liked (surprisingly). One is by the group, Rebel Souljahz, a Hawaiian-based reggae band, heavily influenced by R&B.

Before any further introduction about the group, let us first listen to one of their songs which is my numero ono recommendation for the day.

Rebel Souljahz - Gotta Know Your Name


This is an old track from the group's album, Souljahz for Life released in 2014. Watching the initial part of the music video brought me back to two decades ago during my short stay in the Marianas where I used to encounter young men having jamming sessions in laundry shops, parking areas, and along the street close to my aunt's place.

Anyway, the band's vocalists are Michael Maglinti, Tunez Moananu, Andrew “Bubba” Hodges, and Will Sua, each has their own style but together create harmonious, cool, and fresh melodies.

And now to the second tune, one released over two years ago.

Rebel Souljahz - Herb, Whiskey, & Reggae


Aah, those powerful lyrics, melody patterns, fun and lighter beats, and all. I was hesitant at first thinking the song might be heavy and have explicit words (judged from the title, lol).

Accordingly, the song has topped the spots on Hawaiian reggae stations since its release. To date, it is one of their most viewed videos on YT. 🎶🎵We spread love, make peace, and we don't promote the hate...🎶🎵 The lyrics keep replaying in my mind, lol!

Rebel Souljahz - Chauffeur


This song was one of those we have on repeat because of its fun, danceable tune. Although there was no wiggling of hips, just the feet tapping on the floor and the hands up swaying in the air, lol!

And finally, here's a bonus tune, still from the group, albeit in a different genre from all the three above. The group released this soulful ballad in 2008, showcasing the foursome's distinct vocals - Michael's soulful voice, Will's sweet tenor, and the tight harmonies from Bubba and Kulani.


Interestingly, the foursome started singing acapella during their high school years and evolved into what they are today.

It seem I only hear the music you share here in each week from my PC. So, I listened to the music you shared today and I feel those music is good but can't say excellent. I think the music category has an impact on me.

It's okay :) I'm not into other genres as well but I listen to them once in a while, when the mood allows it :D
