Sowing & Oh, Pests!

I spent some time in the morning trimming my little guy's hair and then watching two episodes on Season 5 of an old CW TV series Arrow. I'm not into long TV series but this one got me hooked, lol! The hubby and I watched the previous seasons many years ago and thought it would be nice to see how the storyline changed so we got on to the binge-watching wagon last week until he got busy and we forgot about it for a while.

Then I remembered it today and thought I could watch one episode and do other things afterward. I ended up watching two and was tempted to go for a third but my eyes were not at their best tired and my little guy started doing his soft cries and then turned into growls because he was hungry and didn't want to eat any of his food, which meant I needed to prepare something different. Well, he loves veggies more than anything so lettuce it is!

Anyhow, we had lunch, and then a quick siesta ensued. On waking up, the yard pulled me out. I had been thinking last week since we started the clearing job in the backyard that I would sow some seeds. None of that was accomplished so I pushed myself and did it today.

I was just grateful that my wrist was better and Anyongi was still asleep so I got the chance to be out and quietly did things my way.

I initially planned on using a seeding tray but dismissed the idea when I noticed the parcel pouches in the storage. The hubby is fond of shopping online. He accumulated plastic bags and pouches from his purchases, and kept them, knowing too well they would be useful.

After checking on the seeds, I filled 5 of the bags with soil from the backyard and labeled them.

g

Unfortunately, I couldn't find the other seeds (Sweet Million tomatoes and a few other varieties). Calling the hubby didn't help either because he couldn't remember where he kept them. He has a bad habit of putting things NOT in the right places.😅

From my search, I found some cactus seeds (Wislizeni and another variety) and why not try and sow them? The instructions require spraying the seeds with fungicides which I wasn't keen on touching, let alone concocting any mixture. So I did the same thing I had done with the tomatoes and considered it an experiment, lol! Fingers crossed, those 8 tiny seeds will germinate.

Only four bags were used - 3 for tomatoes (Cherry, American, and Plum. The other one for the cacti). The 5th pouch is still empty.

I intend to fill more bags and probably a few seeding trays in the following days for red lettuce. I also thought of giving the zucchini a second try. The first one didn't last long enough for us to enjoy its fruits, no thanks to some pests that invaded it.

Speaking of which, I found some nasty ones on the roses. Might be aphids, but I'm not sure. They are so tiny my phone camera can't take a better shot at them. At first look, they don't appear to be insects but when I zoomed, oh my. Yikes!

I thought of making a mixture to spray to them. Unfortunately, we no longer have baking soda in the cupboard so it will have to wait until the next day.

Then there's the white powdery rot on the leaves (and stem) of the 3 potted tomatoes. I don't remember seeing this kind of problem when we grew tomatoes before. But then again, this was our first time growing this variety, so it's a learning experience.

Some of the leaves are already turning yellowish, and a few appear burnt (brown). From a quick research, I learned that they are caused by fungi and there's a remedy to it, which is similar to what I thought of making for the roses.

Some concerns but I believe there are solutions to them. We are rather late in sowing but it's better than nothing. And yeah, the weeding job in the backyard is still waiting. Maybe tomorrow? Will see...

Until then, let's enjoy the remaining hours of the day. Happy Thursday, frens!

Ah the pest, one of the many enemies of the farmers and the gardener. Hope you will be able to tackle them, so sad to see them on our beloved plant isn't it?
I think I should also share some of my garden, as I just finished making the stand for the plants. : )

Same like the plant we have last time. It was infected with the white fungi. I hope the remedy would work for your plants.

Nabuhay ba? Yung isa parang hindi na masalvage, halos lahat ng leaves nya yellowish na.

Hindi na, pinatapon Ng amo KO, Kasi Yung fungi lumilipat SA ibang tanim. Kaya mabuti pa raw itapon kaysa ma infect pa Yung iba.

Hehe. You have done a lot of task. When I started reading your first para, I thought you would spent the day lazily. Fortunately, it became different later and you became super active.

By the way, photographs were well captured.

I thought so too that I might stay lazy but I think my soul needed the gardening magic😉

Thanks, Inti.

OMG
Do try as soon as possible to apply the remedy before the white fungi weakens the plant

Yeah. I figured one of the plants may not survive as most of its leaves are infected. Thank you.

Of course I know that working in a garden is not easy at all, it takes a lot of work to plant flowers and then they have to be protected a lot so that they grow well.

I love the way you take things slow and easy, no rushing, just taking your time.
I have a little garden that I want to start working on by next week, I just hope I'm up to it...lol.

The zooming in actually makes you to see that they are insects
