Some Old School Jams

avatar

Okay, it's Tuesday, and we know the drill, yeah?😉

And because we were feeling some nostalgia the other day, we put on some old school jams and let them play while we (Yongi and I) lazed on the bed. From them, I have chosen three to share today for the TTT by Ablaze.

The first one was a discovery through Adam Sandler's Love You film. I didn't watch, but part of this song played at the beginning of the movie, and I thought it wasn't new to me. I've heard that song before!

Nicolette Larson - Lotta Love

The single was originally composed and recorded by Neil Young, with whom Larson worked in the 70s. Her version of the song is more optimistic, with that classic soft rock horn riff and string arrangements giving the song a touch of disco, adding more rhythm and groove.

It was Larson's number 1 hit song in 1978 in the Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks chart, and number 8 on the pop singles chart.(src)

After playing the song a few times, this part of the lyrics got stuck, and is on repeat in my mind:😅

...🎵It's gonna take a lotta love🎵...

The next one was a random selection, but like the above song, it wasn't my first time hearing this.

Paul Young - Everytime You Go Away

It was first recorded in the 1980s by Hall & Oates in their 1980 studio album. Paul's cover was released in 1985, featuring a combination of instruments (echoed piano, fretless bass, coral electric sitar, and Spanish acoustic guitar). The truth is that the arrangements had me.

The cover reached number 4 in the UK Singles Chart and #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song won British Video of the Year at the 1986 Brit Awards.(src)

And here's the third tune:

Steve Perry - Foolish Heart

The lead singer and frontman of the rock band Journey, Steve Perry, released this in 1984 as part of his first album, Street Talk. The song ranked number 18 on the Billboard Hot 100 and peaked at #2 on the Adult Contemporary.

A little story behind the song:

Information has it that Perry contacted Randy Goodrum to ask him to write songs with him. They had never met before, the songwriter thought Perry might have mistaken him for Randy Bachman. Well, they went on to meet, and Foolish Heart was their first collaboration, and with its success, it wasn't a mistake after all!

Anyway, this timeless ballad about the vulnerability of loving and the courage to heal after getting hurt was covered by various artists. It was also featured in the 12th episode of CSI: Cyber, Season 2.

And with that ends my set of oldies songs for this week's Three Tune Tuesday. Hope you had a good time!

The first one's new to me. I also should watch that film because I love Adam Sandler's films.
The second one's been in my parent's playlists so they're not that new to me. My dad used to sing that very line only 😆
Foolish Heart's been in my playlist and go-to karaoke song 😆
Thanks for sharing all of them. I enjoyed them ✨

With hundreds of thousands or probably millions of old songs, we get lucky if we listen to at least 1% of them hehe. Thank you !LADY
