Pink Eco Hostel [Banaue]

After a failed attempt to secure a room in one of the 3-star hotels in Banaue, we drove to the Banaue Pink Eco Hostel's driveway, expecting nothing but a place to rest for the night. It was dark; the town had a power blackout. Thankfully, the owner was very kind to welcome us warmly, including our four-legged little boy (Yongi). And they had a generator powering their facility. They offered two room choices: a standard and a dorm-type. We chose the former and were ushered to it right away.

It was a small room with its own toilet and bath. But it was clean. No cockroaches or ants, thank goodness! So after a warm shower, we slept soundly and didn't go out until the next morning.

The hubby went downstairs to have our breakfast prepared, and when he came back, he urged us to go out to the balcony, saying the view is nice.

Surprise, surprise!

This was the immediate view just outside our door. The town's main road and some residences.

We walked to the east side of the balcony and voila!

We spent some time there, taking in as much of the view as our souls could. Yongi had his moments, too, although like me, he was scared to look down.

We went down to the basement, where the dining is located. There we discovered that we used the wrong entrance the previous night, lol!

Anyway, we chose the longest table with a view.

The hubby made us coffee while they served our breakfast. The coffee was divine, but it gave me palpitations afterward.

For the food, they only offered two options, so it was toast (for me) and longganisa/sausage with rice (for him). We were not picky. We just wanted to fill our stomachs before checking out and running away from Paolo (the storm).

We enjoyed our simple breakfast, then spent a short while taking photos of the place and the plants, too.

I was mesmerized by the fruiting mulberry tree. It brought back some nostalgia of my childhood, when we had a similar plant (albeit ours was huge) in our yard.

The hubby asked the amiable staff about it, and she gladly gifted us with one pot of them (a stem pruned from the fruiting tree, but already grown some new leaves and auxiliary shoots), and a couple of already rooting stems, yay!

We thanked her and headed back to our room for an early check-out. We still had a long drive home, and we wanted to be early before the storm intensified.

For some reason, I didn't take photos of the whole room, but these were two of our LilGuy's pictures in bed (him eating his treat after his shower the night before, with the pink blanket still tucked in, and the morning when we were preparing to leave).

Overall, it was a lovely place, with a friendly staff and a nice garden, and we would not hesitate to spend another night or two there the next time we visit that town.

Oo nga sis. Tinanong ni mister kung pwede ang cuttings and yon, namigay na. Na-amaze ako don kasi kahit maliit yung puno daming bunga. Yung amin noon, ang taas ng puno, abot ang 2nd floor ng bahay.

that gift of muLBerry cuttings from the staff totally won me over :) it’s such a sweet gesture', and it beats any souvenir when the trip has bumps. little things like that make a stay feel human, more than star ratings. glad you got moving before Paolo got rough.
