Henry Moodie: You Were There, Drunk Text & 18 [TTT]

avatar

I've missed two consecutive weeks on the Three Tune Tuesday (TTT) initiative by Ablaze and I'm not about to let another go by without my participation so here it is!

Henry Moodie has been on my draft for a while now and to be honest, I don't remember exactly how I came across his songs but since his three are on my list, I must have liked him, lol! Well, I love pop so it's no surprise.

Joking aside, Henry is one of UK’s singer-songwriters who swiftly rose to fame through TikTok. He was one of three young lads who formed the band called 202 during the pandemic (2020) which unfortunately disbanded two years later. While attending BIMM Institute, a prestigious music college in London, he started TikTok garnering him a huge fan base. And in July 2022, he self-released his debut single. Let's check it out below:

Henry Moodie - You Were There For Me

A sentimental pop rock that is said to be a tribute to his friend. Accordingly, this song is self-produced in Henry's bedroom. The single achieved millions of streams in a few months, dominating Spotify across Europe, and making him one of Amazon Music's Artists to Watch for 2023.

Moodie credits TikTok for his discovery and fame saying and I quote:

Because I had no idea how big it was gonna go and then it had a TikTok moment. You forget how powerful that app is when it’s on your side. It changed my life.¹

Other artists, including a few of those I have shared in previous TTT editions, have also been discovered through the social media app. With over a billion monthly active users, the social media titan TikTok is cementing its role as a discovery platform.

Henry Moodie - Drunk Text

Released in the last week of January 2023, this song is the first track on his EP - In All of My Lonely Nights - produced by Ryan Linvill, Freedo & Ollie Green. Moodie co-wrote the lyrics of the song with Josh McClelland & Andrew Bannister. According to the artist, the song is about loving another person from afar, saying "that torturous feeling of being in love with someone who it just wouldn’t work out with, it’ll always have to be a secret.”

Ahemmm...

Anyway, below is the third tune by the young British talent.

Henry Moodie - Eighteen

Released a year after his 18th birthday, the artist recalls how the lyrics came about, re:

When I wrote “eighteen” I felt quite lost in life. It was a phase where all my friends were applying to their uni degrees, planning their gap years or already in a job. I was finishing my songwriting course and knew that music was definitely the industry I wanted to be in. However, (as you guys probs know) the music industry is a diffffffficult industry to navigate, I struggled with the pressure I put on myself to “make it” and the fear of not knowing what the future holds.

It puts a smile on my face when I listen to this song now as I’ve come so far from that place I was in – I’ve grown & matured as a person, and what you guys did to “you were there for me” completely changed my life career-wise.

Despite being in a different mental state now, the phase when I wrote “eighteen” was a very significant part of my life & my songwriting journey.²

Henry is now 20 and continues to create music that according to him mostly has sad lyrics. His attempt to make happy ones failed miserably so he thinks he is cut for sad songs. Do you believe so? If you want to check out more of his songs, here is his YT channel.

And there ends my recommendation for TTT. It's nice to discover new or emerging artists and listen to their music even for a while. Thank you for coming along and until next time!

I love the first song, never really heard, maybe because wala akong tiktok app hahaha sad. But I love it, the lyrics is rhyming and it has nice message into it. And the beat, OMG! It definitely deserve a spot on my playlist.

Second song has a sad vibe and melody and I like it too. I think it'll become sadder if I listen it while it's raining. And this one is familiar to me. Tho i heard it in a woman's voice, maybe a cover.

Seriously, why all of this song has story behind it. And I think this is the reason why all three song is cool and amazing. I also like the last. Thanks for the share. Need to download them now, as in rn ƪ(‾.‾“)┐

I like listening to the song Eighteen, it feels nostalgic and I kinda relate with the story behind its lyrics for every now then in our lives we feel like being pressured by how the world could progress and at some point we just feel stuck somewhere in our thoughts. My gosh he's so young yet I can feel that he'll rise up on his music career and be successful just like. He looks so hot btw😘
