Going for the Small House

Magandang buhay!
Sometime ago, we visited a cousin at their three-floor house, and during our conversation, she mentioned getting exhausted just by climbing the stairs every time they go to their bedroom (on the top floor). "I'm still in my 40s and I'm complaining already, so how much more in the next 5 years, or when I'm a lot older and my legs grow weaker," she shared, laughing. "I think a one-floor house or a bungalow is still the best, because when you are old, you wouldn't worry about stairs," she continued.
I readily agreed with what she said because it made sense, and also because I always wanted a small, cozy house. In fact, way back in 2010, the hubby and I created a dream book, and on one of its pages, we pasted a cutout of a bungalow house, which we wanted to work toward.
When we had our first home built, we made sure it was the size we wanted. While it didn't match every detail stated in our dream book, it was a little close, only a lot smaller, but I still like it. It's easy to maintain, and it is not too spacious to tire me out when cleaning, lol!
Well, it's just funny that I started writing this post thinking about sharing my thoughts on one of the topics on this week's LOH prompt, (re: A big, low-cost house, but it needs a lot of repairing, or a small pricier house, but everything's ready for you to move in) but I ended up with this. My mind was messed up, and I blame the hubby for distracting me, haha! He's in the city, and he called a little while ago, asking if we (Yongi and I) were already sleeping.
But yeah, I'd still pick the small house, even if it means paying a bit more for it, simply because I love cozy lil homes.
Anyway, I was offline most of the day for a wee digital detox. I took advantage of the Farmboy's absence and continued where he left off with the DIY thingy in the kitchen. I enjoyed it a lot and lost track of time until the LilGuy whined because he was hungry. What a neglectful fur mama!😅

But there is one fitness expert that suggest sometime to have multiple story house when you grow old, so that you muscle is always trained by going up and down. Keeping you strong, just by doing normal life.
But hey, I prefer smaller house as well.

That would be okay, but when the time comes when nature takes its course, one may not be able to climb stairs 😀

I also agree, better to have everything on just one floor, doing the stairs is an hassle!
Yes. Having experienced it with my Mom, it can be a challenge when there are stairs. Even a small bump in the floor can cause a tumble.
Yeah … a small cozy house is always good … good to maintain 😀😀
Hehe, yes.😀
With a big house daily cleaning and deep cleaning both are a big task 😝😝😝
I also think 3rd floor is kind of too much and after getting old it can be very risky. In my opinion 1st floor is the best but I am ok even with the 2nd floor also.

Yes, older folks need to be on the first floor. My experience with Mom proved the challenge and risk when there are stairs.
You and your cousin are so right about the stairs! Having a cozy and one-floor house is just so much better for the long run. It sounds like you had a perfect day of DIY.
It sure is. And we have experienced it with mom when she couldn't lift her feet to take the stairs.
Hmm, that's so sad
I think I would also prefer it sis. Kahirap mg maintain Ng big house.
Big spacious homes are a no go area for me. If I want space, I can just go out in nature and take in the vast sceneries lol. I don't think I'll need that where I live :)
That's a pretty good reason :) The outdoors are spacious enough to enjoy

Small house is easy to maintain that's true for private sake, but still I love space 😆
That's okay. Hope you got the space you need :)

This made me think of my grandparents. They used to collect house brochures and would let me look through them when I was younger. I really enjoyed imagining what it would be like to live in those houses, especially the smaller and cozier ones. For me, the smaller the house, the more intimate it feels. I love spaces where there aren’t too many walls or doors because it shows how close the people living together are.
I always joke with my parents that if climbing the stairs gets too hard for them someday, that’s okay, we already have a bedroom on the first floor waiting for them 😂

That's a lovely memory you have of your grandparents :)
This is beautiful. And I feel the same way. Big spaces tend to create distance. Unless people in it are super close, they always find time to spend together.
It's always good to have a bedroom on the first floor, because whether we like it or not, our bones grow weaker as we age :)

For someone of her age, climbing the stairs can be stressful sometimes but for younger ones, it gives them a mandatory exercise which is good for the body.
I actually love your idea that a smaller house calls for a smaller home cleaning actually, lol.
Yes, that's right. It's a good exercise, but thinking about the days or years when the bones grow weaker, climbing stairs can be a hassle, or for some, an ordeal :)
Our house is a 2- floor, and our kitchen is in the 2nd floor.. I don't know if my mama and papa is still happy with our daily routine.. Walking upstairs for every meal. Hmmm 🤔😅
As long as they are physically able, I think they are okay :)
Good choice for them. We got rid of the stairs when we moved from Vermont to Florida, and wow, what a difference. We are SO happy to not have the stairs any longer. Didn't even realize how tedious they had become and even dangerous for our big Betty dog to be chasing the cats up and down. I'm pretty sure that's how she injured her hip last year. We miss the bigger house, but not the stairs at all. Would absolutely sacrifice the space to be rid of the stairs again every time!
That's good for you, too. Big Betty must be happy now without having to climb stairs :)
I realized the challenge when Mom got sick and couldn't lift her feet to climb the stairs.
