Emong's Fury

(My own photo, taken along LTB on the 23rd, edited with AI to add the blue sky)

I was delighted when the sky cleared up yesterday morning and teased us with some sunshine. Little did I know that it was short-lived as Typhoon Emong (Co-May) accelerated and arrived around midday, intensifying with heavy rains and strong winds throughout last night and today.

The hubby is away, so I barely had a wink of sleep, being on the edge as the gusts lashed through our roof. Thankfully, I found no damage during my quick check this morning, apart from water gushing into the greenhouse (which we are using temporarily as storage for farm tools, machines, and supplies).

In other places, flooding, landslides, and power outages have become major concerns for most residents. While these occurrences are expected as several typhoons often ravage the country each year, we cannot help but be shocked when things happen. It's quite terrifying to see houses (or vehicles) submerged underwater or being bulldozed by eroding mountainsides. Even more heartbreaking when some people become casualties.

(Courtesy of Bombo Radyo. No casualties reported).

Per updates by the Department of Highways, some areas are cut off from their neighbors as the access (connecting) roads are partially or completely blocked by fallen debris, trees, electrical posts, eroded ripraps, etc. Thank goodness the concerned government agencies are getting them sorted, especially the major highways.

(Road Advisories from local news channel)

Meanwhile, cell towers may have been affected, as mobile networks are down. My last contact with my family was early in the morning, when I learned that there had been a power outage in their area since last night. I hope and pray for everyone's safety as we weather Emong's wrath.

Accordingly, we are currently under Warning Signal #3, so we will continue to monitor the situation and be on alert. I'm thankful we have internet access and electricity here in DD. Still, I made sure the power banks are fully charged, solar lights and such are ready. We have enough food and gas — all good, I guess.

To my fellow Filipinos experiencing this wrathful typhoon, may you be safe and warm, wherever you are. This too, shall pass.🙏

We are in 2025 yet when nature decides to unleash its power, we can't do anything except hope for the best

Good luck with other waves of typhoon!

I pray the wrath stop in less than a day, and people there do not have to fear of anything. Something is to understood, it will not be forever, safety for people in the affected areas.

Thank you, and I say Amen. The rains and winds are weakening at this time, so hoping the typhoon goes away very soon.

We also suffer the same here, flooding in most areas after rain and power outage. Many people died and many are injured
May God keep us safe 🙏

Seems like we have similar weather conditions this month. Here, it is usually wet from May to September, monsoon rains and typhoons.

You're right. We can only hope and pray when nature unleashes its fury. We are safe and sound, thank you. Although, some people have been reported missing, dead, or injured in various places.

This year, there has been flooding in the northern areas of our country and many people have gone there. The government had told us that it could be dangerous to go there these days, but people still went there and because of this, many people have left this world. So we have to be careful so that such incidents do not happen.
