Beta Testing Altera [DeFi Frontend of VSC]

It was as if I had been under a rock for a long while, and I was only learning about the Altera Defi Frontend testing by VSC, which was launched in May. After reading the post, I joined VSC Discord and noticed that the testing group channel was already accessible to channel members, so I got to read back some information regarding the testing.

The curious me got on and started my little test.

Frontend URL: https://altera.vsc.eco/

One can login using Social accounts (Google, Email, X, Discord, etc) or through an EVM wallet (over 450 wallets including MetaMask, Trust Wallet etc) or Hive account (approvals via Keychain, Hive Auth, Ledger or Peak Vault).

I chose to use my alt account and approved the login with Keychain.

Once in, some data on the homepage just keeps loading. Navigating through the other tabs and refreshing the page didn't help. I cannot even logout, until I disabled my browser's popup blocker and refreshed the page a few times.

Well, I somehow expected some issues as the site is on beta.

Next was to test sending HIVE from Hive mainnet to VSC mainnet (Witness Assistant tab). The process didn't require any special actions, except entering the amount of HIVE I wanted to deposit and approved the transaction.

To verify if the deposit and staking was a success, I checked the Transaction tab and the records were there. Navigating to the Home tab, I saw the HIVE under the Balances on my dashboard.

I checked it too on the Peakd frontend on VSC wallet and there it was. That was a nice and smooth transaction!

And next was to deposit HBD and stake it too. This time, I used the Send button (tab) on VSC frontend. The interface is user-friendly, if I may say so. One can simply choose what asset to send (HIVE, HBD, BTC), enter the amount and approve through Keychain.

After confirming the deposit, it was time to stake it on the VSC mainnet. Clicked on "Staking", typed in the amount, then clicked "Stake" and approve the transaction on Keychain. Easy peasy!

The transaction was unconfirmed for a short while before it appeared on my balance.

From what I read, staking HBD on VSC also earns 15% APR, and the interest is auto-claimed once per month (the same with HBD Savings on Hive).

I'm interested in testing or experiencing the liquid version of Staked HBD (sHBD) when it launches on VSC. Surely, it will be an exciting feature or functionality.

Anyway, back to the Altera testing, I had a smooth experience using my Hive account, although I noticed some loading issues when switching from the "Home" menu to the others. I also encountered a minor error while trying to access the Transaction tab, but refreshing the page solved it.

Want to test it out too? Go for it! But first, I recommend reading the following posts by VSC:

Thank you and cheers!

Oh that's a nice post, so far I didn't understand crap on how that worked, that was clear... I just don't get what hive consensus should give there, I only heard hbd apr

I also do not know what the use case of staked HIVE is on VSC. For staked HBD, it is my understanding that it gives resource credits on the frontend.

I also noticed vsc wallet in Peakd but I think I don't need to use it right at the moment. I hope someday I will use it for sure.

It's still on beta so it will be interesting how things will work when it is fully operational.

from my understanding is that you can unlock faster rather than waiting 3 days like regular HBD other than that the APR is the same 15%, I only unluck once a month so not really an advantage for me right now, migh consider when I go heavy on HBD in the future

That's awesome then! The HBD Liquid Staking sounds interesting to me and I would like to experience it when the feature becomes available.

Nice testing round! One thing: consensus staking (and therefore the Witness Assistant option) is for witnesses on VSC. There isn't any utility for HIVE staking for regular users on VSC, as far as I know. But there is HBD staking, and it can be accessed from the staking tab here:

Right now, it's just normal HBD in savings, but they will have a smart contract sHBD—without the 3 days withdraw period—which will be more liquid than HBD in savings.

Thank you for clearing that out. Yes, I tried the HBD staking option with just 50 cents, lol! I can't wait for the launch of the sHBD.

I only added 1$ myself, lol. Kept 50c liquid and staked the rest. And with these operations I consumed about about 1/3 of my RCs on VSC. So... VSC is going to be a blackhole for HBD.

Hmm, that's interesting. I didn't notice how much I spent but will check it next time I do another test :)

I tried to stake another 0.25 HBD directly from my account this morning. That is broken into two operations, which makes sense: deposit and stake. Since then, both operations are pending. Looks like they are still working things out with HBD staking.

Oh, hope the transaction went in by now. So far, my first test (deposit and then stake) was a success.

That one went through. There was a bug (or more) they had to fix. And it's fine now. I just did another and waiting to see results later.
