A Taste of Tuguegarao by the Balcony

(Edited)

We left the house at 10, heading to the Treasury Office to settle the taxes for the properties here in DD. While we took good care of those in the other town early in the year, we failed to do the same here. Thankfully, we received a reminder note on Monday, so we didn't want to postpone it further.

After clearing the taxes, we decided to try the small food house just below the municipal hall for its famed Pancit Batil Patung, a dish said to be a specialty of Tuguegarao City. We read about it on Facebook, so we were curious. We didn't expect much, but we were quite excited. We took one of the small tables on the balcony for a view. The hubby took this shot, by the way.

Fifteen or twenty minutes later, our platter came, looking yummy-licious! Our ever-curious Yongi couldn't help sniffing at it, including the Strawberry Yoghurt.

We couldn't wait to dig in.

But before that, let's see what's in it. On the sides are pork cracklings (chicharon baboy), a few pieces of Lumpiang Shanghai, and generous slices of Lechon Kawali (fried pork). Center toppings are savory minced carabeef and a poached egg. Underneath all of those are the stir-fried Pancit (miki noodles), bean sprouts, carrots, and cabbage.

And here's my first serving, yum! The hubby was kind enough to give me the egg.

And not to forget, the dish came with a big bowl of rich broth, the aroma and flavor of which brought back good memories of Guangzhou (China) when the hubby and I were there many years ago. Oh, the nostalgia! I almost asked if it was okay to take our leftovers home, but my shyness got in the way. Maybe next time, lol!

Interestingly, the dish name "Batil Patung" was derived from this soup (the beaten egg added to it).

Meanwhile, our LilGuy lost interest in the food. His eyes were elsewhere, checking out (watching) all the passersby down the street.

Anyway, for dessert, we had a serving of Camote Rolls, as stated on their menu. It even had two scoops of ice cream. We couldn't finish it, though, because we were too full, so we had it in a paper box for takeaway.

Our verdict?

The place is okay. It is pet-friendly, so that's a plus. It's tidy and cozy. Friendly staff. Generally good ambiance. There is no parking area, though. We had to drive to the church grounds, which is about a 5-minute walk. But that's not a major issue for us. We also like that they use biodegradable straws on the drinks. That's a good step toward environmental friendliness.

Food? We loved them! We had a hearty, satisfying meal at an affordable price. I'm sure we would be checking out their other dishes soon!

We went to the golf course afterward, but that would be a story for another day.

What a strange dish, there's like everything on it 🤔 I would love that in separate dishes, but all the elements seems great! The fried pork might be heavy for the stomach 🤣

I can imagine you couldn't finish the dessert with all that food before!

It's a fusion of things :) Strange looking, but the taste was more than okay.

And yes, the pork was a little too much, but my husband loves meat, so none was wasted, lol!

A whole lots of dishes in one plate that's enough enjoyment with hubby, but why did Yongi lose appetite seeing all the goodies

We were satisfied and very full, lol! Yongi had fun watching people pass by along the street. There were some dogs too, which distracted him from eating.

It was, indeed. Thank you. We were glad they allowed pets inside. We wish there were more of those establishments available in town.

We are all giving tex but the people of our country are not happy here, so my point here is that the government also has to do something for them.

Sorry to hear. I think it's a common concern in most places.
