A Lil Experiment

avatar

Sometime ago, I created a Facebook page for our LilGuy, intending to share reels, short videos, or photos of him (the hubby's idea). But I got distracted and did nothing for months, until I remembered it and started exploring again. I had no idea how to grow the following organically, so I just lurked for a couple of weeks. I did react to some posts and shared a few, but never left any comments on them.

Guess what? People whose posts I have reacted to invited me to follow their pages or join their public groups, but they have not even visited or reacted to my posts, lol! Maybe they were not interested in dogs, I thought.

Then I observed that some accounts with huge numbers of followers are employing the so-called "Count Me In" strategy, where they create a post on their timeline and invite people to engage (basically to find other creators in the comment section and follow each other). It was intriguing, so I tested it myself.

From zero (0) followers and zero interactions, the LilGuy's page suddenly had some activity.

Yes, being social matters. It's no secret that to be discovered, one who is just starting needs to put themselves out there and interact with others consistently (visiting people's pages, reacting and leaving comments on their posts), and of course, creating their content too. The days I stopped doing these, the page's stats went flat (0 visits, 0 interactions).

Oh well, that's a given, especially for a new account that needs to do something to be noticed. It brought me back to when I was just starting on Hive. Nothing happened when I was just on the sideline lurking. Things changed, however, when I put more effort and did the work. Oh boy, we were topping the Hive Engagement League charts back then!(I often slept very late though, lol!)

Anyway, I'm still learning and having a bit of fun with this Web 2 experiment adventure, so I'd continue to keep it going and see how things go. I haven't used the app or the site in years, and I just hope that I won't get tired of it soon.

But yeah, through the LilGuy's page, I got to virtually meet other people, and their adorable fur babies in different breeds, colors, and sizes. I'm even seriously considering getting a wee furry brother for our Yongi.😁

That’s actually a nice way to test the waters though, just being a bit active can make such a big difference. Nice experiment

Yes, it's quite tiring though, especially since I'm trying to limit my screen time during the day :)

I wish he did. Still starting from scratch and takes a lot of work (which I'm not very confident I can do).

Thank you, Inti. !PIZZA

You’re right
If we want to be discovered, we have to showcase what we have too and that’s mostly by engaging with other creators which makes it worth it
