Once a Favorite, Now a Memory: Halwa Puri The Ex-Breakfast I Had to Ghost

Nowadays I am focusing more on my health and actively doing workout, maintaining that good healthy diet. I've started missing some of my favourite food that I used to consume quite a lot regularly

My routine food is a lot different now and it's more like balancing calories, protein instead of chasing those oily fats with high cholesterol.

One good habit I've made from a long time was that I always eat food cooked at home, rarely liked eating at hotel or those fast food junk.

The Lore Behind Halwa Puri Breakfast

I first had Halwa Puri breakfast back when I was in Karachi at COVID, that city is the hub for foodies and it's a fact you'll get all kind of amazing food from Pakistan in Karachi.

My cousin said we'll have breakfast at this restaurant and thought it's going to be chai (tea) paratha (bread)

But turned out we are having Halwa Puri and it was like first time having that so I was bit curious about the taste and experience

I liked it a lot because of how it taste sweet and savory, i loved every bite.

But later I moved back to my city where I was going in college, I mean Islamabad and here in the beginning of 2021 I was having a really tough time so looked for a job, found one at the hotel.

Guess what? That hotel was none other than "halwa Puri" breakfast in the area and it was opened that time.

So while I was working there, I was living in the shared room with the workers

And every morning I used to have Halwa Puri as breakfast that became

My New favourite breakfast in early 2021.

There's a combination that makes Halwa Puri perfect, it includes Halwa that is sweet, semolina-based dessert cooked in ghee with sugar and often garnished with nuts.

Meanwhile Puri is deep fried bread like you can see in the picture, it is too soft and oily.

But there's more, Halwa Puri isn't complete without Chickpea and Potato Curry.

So first you dip that bread in Halwa than dip in chickpea and potato curry to make it rich in taste.

Four Years Without Halwa Puri: Life is Good

It's been four years now since the last time I had Halwa Puri in my breakfast, I've never tried it again since left that restaurant.

I stopped eating it because of the oil that was being used in the making of this food.

And having it in breakfast became a big no for me because that deep fried bread is too oily like after 3-4 bites your hand will be full of oil

Also the sugar in desert is just too much

Both of these oil and sugar made me change my breakfast since having that regularly was already making my health worse.

So now life is much more good without Halwa Puri and if I had a chance to try it I'll but won't start eating it regularly.

Wrapping Up...

In the time that time of my life was quite dark because that same restaurant where Halwa Puri breakfast was my favourite

Didn't paid me my full one month salary and I quit that job on spot because of that reason. So yeah this is also why I never had this food again and I'm glad that I never did.

In the end I'd love to know if you've ever tried Halwa Puri and what's your thoughts about it, feel free to share it in the comments.
