The Cycle of Desire
It's 12:00 am here, before retiring to bed, I couldn't help but share something I find interesting and a tad amusing.
Life is so funny and so are humans, we are wired in a very complex way; our thought processes and emotions are widely different, making us complicated beings.

Humans are insatiable, and I stand by this statement, any day, any time. You work so hard to get what you have always desired, but the moment you get it, the excitement slowly fades and it gradually becomes one of your many possessions. Suddenly, it doesn't seem so special like you've always thought it was, and suddenly you can comfortably live without it, contrary to what you had thought before the purchase.

Without warning, you move on to the next “big thing” on your list. You make plans to buy whatever it is you want this time and when you finally do, the cycle continues over and again. Rinse and repeat, this sucks right? I know.
If the excitement to own or do something for oneself disappears after acquisition what then is the need to put ourselves under unnecessary pressure? Why worry your pretty head over something that becomes the new normal to you in no time?

As much as there are things we get for ourselves or do that are priceless and time has nothing on them, they’re also others we sometimes regret buying as they end up becoming properties lying around.
While pondering on this aspect of human nature, I read a couple of articles that explain this behavioral pattern. In one of the many articles I read, I discovered that the brain rewards pursuit more than possessions or accomplishments, and frankly speaking, I couldn’t agree more. It explains why we experience a dopamine rush when we are pursuing something as against having it. Once you get it and feel fulfilled, your brain gives you another side quest, and in no time, you’re over the euphoria of whatever you’ve acquired to the next thing you need to achieve.
Realizing this wasn’t a “me” problem was relieving to say the very least😃

If you ever start to feel a certain way after purchasing that item you saved up for or anticipated, bear in mind that nothing is wrong with you, nor the item you purchased, your brain is just on another mission, and it’s perfectly normal😃
Have you experienced such dopamine rush after purchasing an item and regretting it after a period of time? How did you handle it? I’d love to read your thoughts in the comments.

this is so true, you see I could not sleep, day and night my mind was on my laptop I wanted to buy, I had to sacrifice a lot to get it, I was like the day I finally have it delivered to me, ahhh ...
do you know it wasn't upto a week after that I could stay for four to five days and not even touch it like or turn it on, but wait ooo this is something I craved so badly to get... I just looked at it I'm like .....all the excitement and blubbes all gone now ....such is life when you acquire one thing, suddenly raises the bar higher ...
truly human wants are insatiable..first thing I learnt in my economics...
nice one xoxo ❣

This reminds me of how I feel about hive-engine tokens. I find one I like, and I decide to get high up on the richlist so I accumulate it over time. Then the token creator issues a zillion more tokens out of thin air and the ones I own drop to 0.00000008 😲
Do I stop collecting these silly tokens? Nope, it's on to the next one! 😅
Lol ohhh yeah!!! Forward ever😂😂
I love how you're not beating yourself about it, that's admirable.
Sending you some Ecency curation votes!
This has happened to me many times and I know I am not the only one in this. Hahaha. That’s how humans are wired to be until we suddenly realize these things aren’t something we should worry about at all.
So trueeee! Worrying our pretty heads about these things isn’t worth it at all.
Thanks for stopping by, Princess 😃
As you rightly say, these kinds of situations are normal. The key is learning to balance what's truly necessary with what should bring us genuine pleasure.
