Role Models: Between Ideal and Reality
We all have people we look up to, people we adore and love, and in our eyes they cannot go wrong. Our love and adoration stem from remarkable traits we find in them, but sometimes such people can disappoint us too.
What was that thing you heard your role model, favorite friend, boss, or someone you respect say that made you realize you couldn't continue looking up to someone who had that mentality?
I have a couple of people that I look up to, and they inspire me in so many ways. They are the kind of people you have certain conversations with, and you get inspired instantly. They don’t need to do too much for you to like them as it happens naturally.
One thing love does to us is blind us; we become oblivious of the wrongs of people we love.
We place them on a pedestal, and in our eyes they can’t do certain things but sometimes these people can end up breaking the trust and faith we have in them.
I had a role model who possessed all these qualities I listed above. She was a lady I loved and admired so much. I loved her perspective of life and how she carried herself, she was such an amazing woman, and I was happy to have her in my little corner.
Her mantra was; “Nothing is permitted to spoil in my hands,” and I loved her even more for this.
She would go for what she wanted regardless of the status quo, she was truly a blessed woman , but just as the love and adoration for one grows and blooms over time, disappointment can ruin everything without warning too.
Everything was going smoothly until rumours started flying around, and these rumours where about her poaching clients. All the individuals involved were mad at her, but I discarded the rumours and blamed my colleagues for trying to tarnish her image.
It kept on going on for some time, and every single time I was more than ready to defend her against the entire organization until it happened in my presence, she was indeed poaching clients, and by the virtue of her office, she was able to do it very well.
For someone I truly loved, it was such a hard pill to swallow. I wanted to be sure if it was just a mix up or true.
I met her one day and asked her if the rumours are true, and she said the most shocking thing to me.
“IB money must be made even if it’s by hook or crook, use your head, fine girl.”
I stared at her in disbelief, not believing my ears, there was no way this was coming from someone like her, but sadly it did and she wasn’t joking when she said every single thing.
If there’s one thing I believe the most in life is having financial integrity. I might be starving today, but I’d never compromise my standard when it comes to having financial integrity. Cheating people to make money is very bad and I try not to be part of it.
Realizing that my supposed model could say and do something like that without any form of remorse made me see her differently, and subsequently my admiration for her began to fade.
It was hard to stop adoring her, but eventually it happened and it also taught me a couple of lessons.

Loads of love🥰🥰
XOXO
This is so true.
It's a hard pill yo swallow when the people we look up to turn out to be something else. I like your resolution to be right and uncompromising when it comes to finance. It's a character we need. Thankfully, you didn't give in, and you got a lesson from it.
It's truly a hard pill to swallow but we have to swallow it anyway😃
Thanks for stopping by friend.
Yeah, that's it
You're welcome!
Very disappointed statement, that is not a good role model to fellow, that means she can do anything to make money
Hehehehe it was baffling, but life goes on😃
