Clean First, Brew Later

I stared at the Spill the Beans Prompt for the week and I didn’t need to think too much to come up with this post.

Is there someone in your life that perplexes you with their coffee habits? What things do they do that you find odd?

Just the way our fingers are not equal the same applies to our various lifestyles and belief systems.

Whenever I see people behave the way they do I try not to judge them as I do not know what happens behind the scenes. I have my own flaws just like everyone else and behind every flaw is a backstory.

My boss has OCD and is also a germaphobe.
I don't know if he has full-blown OCD but how he does his activities meticulously still surprises me to date. We've had so many functions that he had had to turn down because to him the places where these functions were held were not as clean or hygienic to a certain degree.

Gradually we all understood him and we've all accepted that it would always be part of him.

My boss’ love for coffee knows no bounds. He loves to try different brands of coffee at any given opportunity and doesn’t let anyone make his coffee for him. A huge part of why he doesn’t let people make his coffee is a result of the germaphobe thingy and his daily coffee ritual.

One coffee habit that my boss does that perplexes me is cleaning and cleaning the coffee maker over and over again, searching for dirts that are only visible to his germophobic eyes.
If it takes a person about 5 minutes to make a coffee, it takes him way longer than that to prepare his coffee and if you need to have a conversation or a meeting with him you'd have to wait for a long time before achieving that.

It perplexes me because it is crystal clear that the coffee maker is damn clean but he insists that it is surrounded by germs. We all allow him to finish his coffee ritual before we get to tell him whatever we want to tell him.

Drinking coffee quickly is my boss’ forte, after he finishes his coffee ritual he quickly downs all the content almost immediately and I am always shocked. If you had all the time in the world to do your self-care coffee maker routine, cleaning, and every other thing you do before making your precious coffee why can't you sit for a few minutes to enjoy your hard labour? Like, enjoy the pure bliss you had gone through all the stress for. How he does this every time still surprises me.

I know people have long conversations or meetings over coffee and I also know that sipping your coffee slowly while you reflect or meditate on your life is heavenly so seeing my boss throwing all that away in a twinkle of an eye perplexes me😂 It perplexes me big time because you freaking wasted so much time and effort to achieving your goal and then you down everything in a twinkle of an eye?

IMG_0053.jpeg

After hurriedly taking his coffee he goes for another cleaning spree😂, washing the coffee maker thoroughly again, trust me he has all the time in this world to achieve perfection in whatever he sets his mind to.

Doing all of these isn’t even a big deal but you see how he concentrates to do it? It's BAFFLING! His face would be so serious like he is trying to solve a maths problem. Now he spends another amount of time doing the cleaning process again. I still cannot get the logic behind him spending so much time cleaning the coffee maker and less time taking the coffee.

Whenever he suggests making my coffee alongside his I always reply with a big NO because I’d get tired of waiting for him to do his cleaning ritual. While I applaud him for being all clean and proper, sometimes I can’t help but be tired of everything but in the end, his the best boss that I could ever ask for😃

The bad thing about germaphobics is that what we see as good enough is not good enough for them. At least they make up for it by being a good boss.

I wouldn't want to live with a serious case of OCD or germaphobia because it is time-consuming and can cause unnecessary stress and anxiety.
I'm amazed that your boss does not have his personal coffee maker carefully stored away and brought out only for his use.

He does and he still maintains his cleaning ritual regardless.

I suppose the coffeemaker in question is for general use. It'd save him some trouble to get one of his own which he keeps and only brings out for use when he needs.

People like your boss are the kind that others will like for their clean habits but when you get to share a space with them, its eother you buckle up or you're in for some real disturbance.

Germaphobes could be nice to work with for their neatness and a big bonus that he is nice. One just needs patience and tolerance to excel with him.

How great that at the end of the day you can enjoy, value and appreciate that differentiating point of your boss. That's what makes us special. And I'm with you, don't wait so long for a good coffee. 🤣

Germaphobia can make people spend long time in cleaning comfortably. It requires patience to deal with germaphobic people.

I think your boss rushed to drink his coffee after spending time to prepare it to avoid germs finding their ways into it.

Staying around someone like that can really stress me. Just like you, I'll not allow him make coffee for me because by the time he's done, I would have lost interest. 😂

For people like him, you will just be watching them do their thing and if you happen to share coffee with them and they help you prepare it, you will have to wait till eternity 😆😆 and by then, the interest isn't there anymore. Your boss just wants to be extra sure and careful not to drink dirt. Lol

This story of yours was amusing. I would be thinking exactly the same! Ain't no way I'm waiting on him for the perfect cuppa hehe. I have a very good friend who is OCD. His home is always spotless, and it feels like his favourite pastime is cleaning. We learnt quickly to let him be. He needs things to be just so in order to be happy. So... we let him clean and be happy.

This baffles me more than anything! How they find joy and fulfillment in cleaning suprising!😂
