Visit to the Palace of the Captains General and history of famous statues in old havana - Monomad Challenge [ENG] [ESP]

Did you know that? In my country in the city of Old Havana, there is an old Palace of Captain General or Government House, one of the most significant baroque architectural works of the colonial period on the island.

Well today as participation in the #monomad contest of @monochromes and @brumest, I will give you my experience about the building, declared a national monument. In addition to introducing you to a square with four statues of great writers of universal culture. Interesting, isn't it? Join me

¿Sabías qué? En mi país en la ciudad de la Habana Vieja, existe un antiguo Palacio de Capitán General o Casa de Gobierno, una de las obras arquitectónicas barrocas más significativas del período colonial en la isla.

Pues el día de hoy como participación en el concurso #monomad de @monochromes y @brumest, les daré mi experiencia sobre el inmueble, declarado monumento nacional. Además de presentarles una plaza con cuatro estatuas de grandes escritores de la cultura universal. Interesante, ¿verdad? Acompáñame

The architectural mansion housed the mandate of 65 captains general, 4 American interveners, 3 presidents of the Republic and 170 mayors of Havana, from 1790 to 1959. Subsequently, after the triumph of the Revolution and until 1967, various government authorities at the metropolitan level resided there and it currently houses several rooms for the city's museum.

La mansión arquitectónica albergó al mandato de 65 capitanes generales, 4 interventores norteamericanos, 3 presidentes de la República y 170 alcaldes de la Habana, desde 1790 hasta 1959. Posteriormente, tras el triunfo de la Revolución y hasta 1967, radicaron en él diversas autoridades del gobierno a nivel metropolitano y actualmente presenta varias salas para museo de la ciudad.

On the outskirts is a bronze sculpture of "Eusebio Leal Spengler", historian of the city, created by the author of the National Prize of Plastic Arts José Villa Soberón.

This figure was known throughout the country for his tireless work in the restoration and conservation of the historic center of Havana, with his fundamental work to rescue the cultural heritage of Cuba.

A las afueras se presenta una escultura en bronce de "Eusebio Leal Spengler" historiador de la ciudad, creada por autor del Premio Nacional de Artes Plásticas José Villa Soberón.

Esta figura fue conocida en todo el país por su labor incansable en la restauración y conservación del centro histórico de La habana, con su trabajo fundamental por rescatar el patrimonio cultural de Cuba.

In its interior patio there is a marble statue of Christopher Columbus, placed in this place in 1862.

En su patio interior está enclavada una estatua en mármol de Cristóbal Colón, colocada en este lugar en el año 1862.

This Palace of the Captains General has 40 permanent exhibition rooms, dedicated to preserving the memory of Cuba's independence deeds and the search for national identity, until the definitive revolutionary victory in January 1959. Its living environments recall stately times and recreate interior spaces with the charm of remarkable collections that enhance the national heritage. The essential objective of the museum is to represent in a symbolic way the history of Cuba.

Este Palacio de los Capitanes Generales posee 40 salas de exposiciones permanentes, dedicadas a preservar la memoria de las gestas independentistas cubanas y el fragor de la búsqueda de la identidad nacional, hasta la definitiva victoria revolucionaria en enero de 1959. Sus ambientes habitacionales rememoran épocas señoriales y recrean espacios interiores con el encanto de notables colecciones que engrandecen el patrimonio nacional. El objetivo esencial del museo es representar de manera simbólica la historia de Cuba.

Next is the oldest monument in Cuba. It is embedded in one of the walls of the courtyard, to the right as you enter, under the arcades and I was pleased to find it. It does not remember a hero, nor a warrior, nor a brave, nor a powerful person. It is in memory of a woman who died pierced by an accidental shot from an arquebus while praying in the parish church.

It happened in 1557 and since then it had remained embedded in one of the walls of that church which, precisely, was demolished to build this palace. This small monument had been moved to a museum, but in 1937 it was returned to what was considered its original place.

A continuación el monumento más antiguo de cuba. Está incrustado en una de las paredes del patio, a la derecha según se entra, bajo las arcadas y que a mi me gustó encontrármelo. No recuerda a un héroe, ni a un guerrero, ni a un valiente, ni a un poderoso. Es en memoria de una mujer que murió atravesada por un disparo accidental de un arcabuz mientras rezaba en la iglesia parroquial.

Ocurrió en 1557 y desde entonces había permanecido incrustado en una de las paredes de aquella iglesia que, precisamente, fue derribada para levantar este palacio. Este pequeño monumento se había trasladado a un museo, pero en 1937 fue devuelto a lo que se consideró su lugar primitivo.

During the tour I took several photographs of items to show you how the Spaniards of that time lived and transported themselves, their carriages, coach houses, useful pieces for the colonials, royal carriages and carts.

En el recorrido tome varías fotografías de artículos para que vean cómo vivían y se transportaban los españoles de aquella época, sus carruajes, cocheras, piezas de utilidad para los coloniales, coche real y carretas.

Another relevant piece is the locomotive, a remembrance of the first one that circulated on November 19, 1837 through the Villanueva station. This Cagney 15 locomotive, manufactured in 1905 in the United States, is a gem of the Cuban railway heritage.

Otra de las piezas relevantes es la locomotora, una remembranza de la primera que circuló el 19 de noviembre de 1837 por la estación de Villanueva. Esta pieza de tipo Cagney 15, fabricada en 1905 en los Estados Unidos, constituye una gema del patrimonio ferroviario cubano.

On the other hand, while passing through the Plaza San Francisco de Asis, I was able to take several photos of sculptural jewels of writers in the universal culture. Placed in this area to pay tribute to world literature and create a dialogue between art and history in a key tourist area.

Por otra parte, al pasar por la Plaza San Francisco de Asís, pude realizar varías fotos a joyas escultóricas de escritores en la cultura universal. Colocadas en esta zona para rendir homenaje a la literatura mundial y crear un diálogo entre el arte y la historia en un espacio turístico clave.

Luis Vaz de Camões is considered the greatest poet in the Portuguese language, where his most successful work, which earned him a pension from King Sebastian I, was "Os Lvsiadas".

Luis Vaz de Camões considerado como el mayor poeta en lengua portuguesa, donde su obra con mayor éxito, que lo hizo merecedor de una pensión por el Rey Sebastián I fue "Os Lvsiadas".

William Shakespeare is considered the greatest writer of the English language and the world's preeminent playwright, one of the most celebrated in world literature. Two of his most important works are "Hamlet" and "Romeo and Juliet" recognized worldwide after epochs.

William Shakespeare considerado como el mejor escritor del idioma inglés y dramaturgo preeminente del mundo, uno de los más célebres de la literatura universal. Dos de sus obras más importantes son "Hamlet" y "Romeo y Julieta" reconocidas mundialmente tras épocas.

Miguel de Cervantes y Saavedra was a novelist considered one of the greatest figures of Spanish literature, among his most famous works is "Don Quixote of La Mancha" which led him to be extremely well known and which has been described as the first modern novel, as well as one of the best works of world literature.

Miguel de Cervantes y Saavedra fue un novelista considerado como una de las máximas figuras de la literatura española, entre sus obras más famosas está "Don Quijote de La Mancha" que lo llevó a ser extremadamente conocido y la cual han descrito como la primera novela moderna, así como una de las mejores obras de la literatura universal.

Dante Alighieri is known for establishing the use of the vernacular, which is the ordinary informal form of the language, at a time when most poetry was written in Latin, only sensible for educated writers.

Dante Alighieri es conocido por establecer el uso de la lengua vernácula, que es la forma ordinaria informal del lenguaje, en una época donde la mayoría de la poesía estaba escrita en latín, solo sensible para escritores educados.
