What Makes Us Truly Human?

I remember one afternoon, I was within the area, and a pregnant woman was carrying a heavy bag of food items and trying to balance her load while holding her small child. She looked tired and uncomfortable. As she struggled, she accidentally bumped into a man. Instead of understanding or offering help, the man shouted at her loudly, and even insulted her and told her to watch where she was going. People around were looking at her, out of shame, she bend her head in shame, adjust and slowly picked up her bag and walked on, head down.
In that moment, I stood there and asked myself, “Is this what we’ve become? Have we forgotten how to care?

There are many times in life when you see or experience something that make you ask, “Is this person really human? Or does he have a conscience?
Alot of things will come to your head cause of how they behaved at that very moment. Sometimes, people behave like they’ve forgotten that it means a lot to feel for someone as human,
But what does it actually mean to be human?

To me, being human is not just about having a head, hands, and feet, it's about having emotions, values, and a heart that feels for others.
One of the things that makes us truly human is empathy, the ability to feel what another person feels. When we see someone in pain and we care, that’s empathy. When we choose not to laugh at someone’s failure, that’s kindness, and all of which make us human

Another thing is conscience, that inner voice that tells us when something is wrong or unfair. But Sadly, not everyone listens to that voice. Some people silence it with pride, hate, or selfishness. But a truly human person will stop and think, How would I feel if it were me?
These are the kind of questions one needs to ask himself.

We also show our humanity through acts of compassion. Whether it’s giving food to a hungry person, helping a stranger in need, or simply being polite to someone, these small actions show that we still have a heart that beats for more than just ourselves.

And then there’s hope and love. No matter how hard life gets, humans always find a reason to keep going. We dream of better days. We love our families and friends deeply. We cry, we laugh, we care. All of these are what makes us different.

But when a person acts without conscience, treats others badly without reason, or shows no sign of care or remorse, we begin to wonder if they’ve lost touch with their humanity. We start to say things like, “That man acts like he has no human feelings,” or “How can she behave like that and still call herself a person?”
It’s not because we want to insult them, but because we know what being human should look like and they don’t show it.

Being truly human is a choice. Every day we wake up, we get the chance to either be kind or cruel, selfish or generous, cold or caring. It’s the choices we make in how we treat others, especially the weak, the poor, and the helpless, that reveal who we really are.

Next time you ask, or hear someone ask “Is this person even human? remember, humanity is not just something we are born with. It’s something we show.
Being truly human is not just about looking like one, it’s about living like one. It’s about showing love, compassion, and conscience in a world that often forgets these things.
It’s easy to speak, walk, and exist, but it takes real strength to be kind, to feel for others, and to do what is right even when no one is watching.
At the end of the day, our humanity is not measured by our words, but by our actions. So, let us choose to live in a way that reminds others and ourselves of what it truly means to be human.
