The surprised incident
Hi everyone, and welcome back to my blog.
Today was not an ordinary day for me. I had an experience that left me deeply touched and troubled. I visited someone at the hospital earlier today, and as usual, when you walk into a hospital, you see different kinds of patients, young and old, male and female, all battling one health issue or another. But there was one particular case that completely broke my heart.
While I was there, I met a young man who had been brought in with very serious burns all over his body. His condition was so bad that I couldn’t even look at him for more than a minute. The pain he must have been feeling, I cannot begin to imagine it. His body was badly burnt, from his face all the way down to his legs. In fact, I think only his toes were a bit spared. It was so bad that he couldn’t even wear any clothes. The hospital had to keep him covered with light cloth and bandages to ease his pain.
From what I gathered, this young man is a bike rider, one of those hardworking people who pick up passengers and take them to their destinations just to earn a living. He wasn’t a thief, He wasn’t a troublemaker, He was simply trying to survive, trying to make ends meet like every other regular person.
So, he had picked up two young men who asked him to take them to a certain village. Now, there is a newly constructed road that leads to that area, a smooth but very quiet road, since not many people pass through it yet. That’s the road they followed. Unfortunately, that road became a trap.
Along the way, the two men attacked him from behind. They wanted to steal his bike and whatever money he had on him. He tried to fight back, he struggled to protect his source of income, but they overpowered him. They collected the bike and as if that wasn’t wicked enough, they poured fuel on him and set him on fire.
Yes, They set him on fire.
Let that sink in.🥲
It was a woman passing by who saw him struggling and burning by the roadside. She quickly rushed him to the hospital. That’s how his life was saved, at least, for now.
As I stood there looking at him, I couldn’t help but feel a deep pain in my chest. How can people be this wicked? Why would anyone do this to another human being? Taking his bike alone was already wicked enough, that bike was his only source of livelihood. That was how he fed himself, that was possibly how he supported his family. But to now pour fuel on him and burn him alive? What kind of heart do you have to carry such evil?
I keep asking myself, where has our humanity gone? What happened to conscience? What happened to mercy?
This incident has been on my mind since I left the hospital. I didn’t plan to write about this today, but I feel like it’s something we all need to think about. We live in a world where many people are going through a lot, and instead of helping one another, some people choose to add to the pain of others.
If you’re reading this, please take a moment to say a prayer for that young man. I don’t know his name. I don’t know where he’s from. But I know that he didn’t deserve what happened to him.
Also, let’s use this as a reminder to be kinder. Let us watch out for one another. And if you ever feel the urge to harm another person for your own gain, please think twice. Think deeply. It could be you tomorrow. You could be in that hospital bed, crying for your life.
Until next time,
Stay kind. Stay human.
Thanks for reading through 😊
