My short making

Hi everyone and Welcome back to my blog
Today, I’m excited to share something that I worked on recently. I made a short from scratch using a left over fabric I have in my room, this fabric had been there for months, when I was arranging some stuff, I came across it and felt it wasn't that useful buh after a second thought I went to see if I could make something with the fabric omoh, the fabric was too small to make what I wanted, so I decided to just cut a short which I could use at home when working 😁

I started by folding my fabric into two, making sure it was wide enough to contain my measurements. Then I marked out all the important lines, waistline line, hip line, crutch line, thigh measurement, and the short length.
It's a short with band, so the waist doesn't need to be tight

Even though the short will have a band and won’t be fitted at the waist, I still marked the waistline. But instead of using my actual waist measurement, I used my hip measurement on the waistline too. This gives the short a loose fit around the waist, and the band helps pull it in neatly.

From the hip line, I divided my hip measurement by 4 and marked it. I repeated the same thing at the waistline, using the same measurement for ease. I then added my crutch measurement and thigh measurement, and I carefully cut out the front part of the short.

To cut the back, I simply placed the front piece I had just cut on top of another folded piece of fabric. Then, I added some extra allowance to the back from the waist to the length, and cut it out following the front as a guide.

Once I finished cutting both the front and back pieces, I moved on to sewing. It was a straight sewing process, following the shape and measurements I had marked, so it didn’t take too much of my time.

After sewing both sides together, I moved on to the band. I didn’t have elastic rubber at the time, so I decided to make my own band using a black fabric since the material wasn't enough for it. I cut out a 1 and half inch wide strip, made it long enough to go around the waist, folded it, ironed and sewed it in place. That was what I used for the waistband.

Finally, I hemmed the bottom of the short. I folded it in by just half an inch and sewed it down to give the edge a clean and simple finish.
And then, my short was ready
