MY DIY BAG JOURNEY 🧵👜

Bonnet-bag

So lately, I came across this unique bag online and for some reason, I just couldn’t get it off my mind. It was made from a material that looked just like a dull-face and the design reminded me of a bonnet. I really loved how different it looked, so I decided to recreate something similar on my own.

Luckily, I remembered I had a white dull-face material left somewhere in my room. Although it wasn’t much, I knew it would work for at least part of the bag. To make up for the rest, I used black linen as the interface. The mixture of black and white gave it a nice contrast that I actually liked.

Here's how it started
I folded the dull-face material in two, and then folded it again to form a triangular shape, you do just the same method used when cutting a flare. Since the material wasn’t long enough, I made sure to use all the length and drew a straight line to the other end before cutting it out. Once I was done with that, I used the cut out white fabric as a pattern to cut the black linen.

After cutting both materials, I placed the black linen on the right side of the white material and sewed them all the way around, leaving about 2 inches open. This opening was for turning the fabric inside out later, and also for ironing to keep it neat.

Once that was done, I stitched about 1 inch from the edge of the fabric, all the way round. Then, I stitched another line about half an inch from the first one, this space was meant to serve as the casing for the elastic band.

After that, I cut a small piece of lining with it's interface to fix it at the button of the bag, inorder to make it balance when sitting, and this is how it looked

I cut the elastic to the exact length I wanted and inserted it into the casing I had made. The moment I pulled it through, the fabric started forming a bonnet shape, though not as wide as the usual bonnet.

To make the handle of the bag, I simply used thread and needle to sew and attach it. I wanted to keep it simple and handmade, and honestly, the final look came out better than I expected.
