Important lessons for children.... LOH 263

There’s a popular saying from the Bible that says, Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it. That’s one of the deepest truths I’ve come to understand. Children are like soft clay, what we pour into them while they’re still growing is what will shape the adults they’ll become.
Teaching children the right values doesn’t just help them behave now, it prepares them to live better, lead better, and love better in the future.

One of the most important lessons I believe every child should learn is love and I see love as the greatest, I don’t mean just saying I love you, I mean living out in love,through kindness, patience, forgiveness, compassion, and even correction. A child who is raised in love learns not only how to receive love but also how to give it back. Love teaches empathy, it helps children understand how to treat others with care and respect, how to forgive instead of holding grudges, and how to look beyond themselves.
Alongside, love comes from the power of honesty. When a child understands that it’s okay to make mistakes but important to speak the truth, we are raising someone who will be trusted and respected. Honesty brings freedom, it teaches them to be real and not wear masks to please others. And when they see honesty in the adults around them, it becomes a natural part of their own character. Saying the truth as children help one automatically to despise lies.

We should also teach children how to stay strong when life gets hard. Life won’t always go the way we want, and if a child doesn’t learn how to handle disappointments early, they may grow up expecting life to be perfect. We must let them know that failure doesn’t make them a failure, it simply means they are learning, growing, and trying again, and it lead us to teaching them contentment as well, once a child is okay with what he has, he begins to live life without oppressions.

Another important value is self-worth. Teaching children about self worth is like giving them a super power, is about helping them understand their value, strength and uniqueness. Every child needs to know that they are enough, that their value doesn’t come from their grades, their talents, or how popular they are, but from the fact that they are unique, loved, and important. When a child is taught to see themselves with love and confidence, they won’t settle for less than they deserve in friendships, relationships, or life and they become more confidence, resilient and happy.

And even though the world is changing so fast, we shouldn’t forget to teach them about respect. Respect for elders, for rules, for themselves, and for those who are different from them. Children should grow up understanding that no one is above another, and everyone deserves to be treated with dignity.

When we raise children with love, honesty, resilience, confidence, and respect, we’re not just raising them for ourselves, we’re raising them for the world. These values guide how they handle challenges, how they treat others, and how they grow into adults who give back to society.

The truth is, we can’t always control the world our children will grow up in, but we can prepare them for it. We can equip them with inner strength, wisdom, and compassion. And even if they wander for a while, just like it is written, when they are old, they will not depart from it.

So yes, the most important thing we can do is train them in the way they should go, with love at the center of everything. Because love is the greatest lesson of all. It heals, it guides, it connects and it never fails.
