Good day, everyone, and welcome to my blog. Today, I want to write about FC Barcelona goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny, as he has exceeded my expectations since he joined the club in the January transfer window. FC Barcelona's number one goalkeeper Marc Andre Ter Stegen picked up a knee injury last year which saw the goalkeeper ruined out for the rest of the season( which doesn't seem likely anymore as he is recovering faster than expected and could play towards the end of the season) and talks went on about who will handle his spot till he recovers from the injury.

There was no doubt that many Barcelona fans saw Inaki Pena as the number-one goalkeeper for the rest of the season. It was not the first time Inaki Pena had taken Ter Stegen's place when he was out for some time and I believed Inaki Pena was up for the task for the rest of the season, but Deco had other plans as he sort to get a short time replacement immediately for Hansi Flick who seemed fine with Inaki Pena at that time. Wojciech Szczesny was the name on top of Deco's list as he convinced the goalkeeper to come out of retirement to play for FC Barcelona.

At first, this transfer didn't sit well with me because I thought, why get Szczesny when Inaki Pena is in the squad and can give his best for the team? But what do I know, as I am just a fan. Wojciech Szczesny agreed to come out of retirement and play for the Catalan giant, but it was not rosary at first as the Polish goalkeeper was on the bench for a long time and I even wanted him to get a little game time not that Inaki Pena was not good, but why get a goalkeeper for six months and not allow him to play was my thought and gradually Hansi Flick started using Szczesny in the Copa Del Rey competition.

Wojciech Szczesny was gradually used in other competitions, but Inaki Pena still maintained his spot as the number one goalkeeper in Laliga matches and Champions League games but everything changed in the Spanish Super Cup final in Saudi Arabia as Szczesny started the match ahead of Inaki Pena simply because Inaki Pena came late to training and honestly that was fair because no one should be given special treatment at the club. Szczesny picked up a red card in that match and got a second there. I was like, Hansi Flick wouldn't start him frequently again, but that didn't happen, and we reached the number one goalkeeper saga, which I wrote a post about a month ago.

Hansi Flick had a heated conversation with Inaki Pena as the Spanish goalkeeper was not having it on his recent none involvement in matches and the conversation didn't have a good end. Later, Hansi Flick came out to the press and confirmed that Wojciech Szczesny is the number one goalkeeper for the team after some hard thought-out decision with his technical team. Szczesny has been solid ever since, and his performance against Benfica, just proves why Hansi Flick made him the number-one goalkeeper of the team.

There are talks about Szczesny staying for another season at the club. The Polish goalkeeper has confirmed these talks but has said he is focused on giving his best for the team. Then, after the season, he can decide whether to stay or return back to retirement. Ter Stegen should be back, so there is no need to rush anything now, and hopefully, all parties will weigh their options and see what is best for each side in the long run. So, guys, that will be all for now. Thanks for stopping by and have a good day.
