The Champions League Is Back
Good day, everyone, and welcome to my blog. So club football returned this weekend and we saw amazing matches played in different leagues. It's already a new week, and today the first matches of the UEFA Champions League will be played. The long wait is over now and the competition that everyone loves will kick off this evening as the race to crown Champions of Europe has begun. The UEFA Champions League competition saw a new format introduced into the competition, which many people were not okay with, as some said it is another way for UEFA to make more money with this new format.
It was weird at the start of the season, following the new format, as a group phase was cut out to introduce a League phase, and I am sure most of us here in the community know how the league phase format is set and the qualification for teams to make the round of sixteen phase in the competition. In all honesty, the new format was not that bad from my perspective, as it was nice watching teams go against each other in one match, as there will be no return leg except for the round of sixteen phase to the competition's semi-final.
We got four home and away games for each team to showcase their qualities and just that last season in the Champions League. Last UCL season was one of my favourite seasons of the competition as a Barcelona fan for a long time as Barcelona performed incredibly well in the competition and should have made it to the final if the referee had looked at that last-minute play that happened between Gerard Martin and Dumfries leading to Inter Milan's equaliser in the match. It's all in the past now and what matters now is if Barcelona is going to put up that same performance last season in this new season.
FC Barcelona is not only the team to look out for in this new season of the UCL, as Liverpool, which has done an incredible recruiting job over the summer, is a big contender in the competition. There is still PSG, who are defending champions, and I strongly believe they can pull off what they did last season under Luis Enrique. Real Madrid are always strong contenders and favourites each season of the competition, plus with new manager Xabi Alonso, they are looking solid since the start of the season. Chelsea, with their incredible performance in the FIFA Club World Cup, is also a strong contender for the competition. They certainly have a quality squad so they have what it takes to go far in the competition.
Other clubs have a good chance of going head-to-head with the clubs I mentioned above in this new season, and I can't wait to see what this new season of the Champions League will bring for every football fan. So, guys, that will be all for now. Thanks for stopping by and have a good day.
