The 2025 Ballon d'Or Ceremony
Good day, everyone, and welcome to my blog. Last night, the 69th Ballon d'Or ceremony was held, and the winner of the 2025 Ballon d'Or was Dembele. Undoubtedly, Dembele deserves the award as he had an incredible year with PSG. The Frenchman won the first-ever Champions League title for PSG last season, alongside other trophies domestically, and was close to winning the FIFA Club World Cup, but the French club lost at the hands of Chelsea.
Dembele was the main man for PSG last season under Luis Enrique, who led an incredible team in all competitions the French club participated in last season. There was no doubt from my end that Demeble would not win it even though he had two challenges from my club, Lamine Yamal and Raphinha. The two players were on another level last season, especially Raphinha, who was the top goal scorer in the Champions League and was decisive for Barcelona in crucial games that needed to be won.
Lamine Yamal is a generational talent who is already known, and many were hoping he would win the award last night, but it didn't go as hoped, and I respect that because Dembele deserves to win it this year. Lamine Yamal came second on the Ballon d'Or list and I can say this is an improvement because last year he was ranked 8th on the list, so maybe next year he will be the one taking home the Ballon d'Or award. Dembele gave an emotional speech after he was handed the award, and I couldn't help but feel happy for the Frenchman because he had a struggling career that was caused by multiple injuries, and it's nice to see how far he has come to reach where he is today.
Some things did not sit well with me about the ranking of the Ballon d'Or, and the first one is Pedri not making the top 10 list of the Ballon d'Or ranking, which obviously he should be on that top 10 list. Pedri's ranking at number 11 is absurd because the performance he had last season was insane. Pedri won the man of the match award a couple of times, and in some of those matches, he didn't score or make an assist, which just proves how influential Pedri is on the pitch. It was quite a shock not seeing him in the top 10, and what made me even more shocked was Raphinha not finishing among the top 3 on the list.
Raphinha was ranked 5th on the Ballon d'Or list, and I can't help but wonder if the journalists who voted, plus the captains of the national team, didn't witness the performance Raphinha had with Barcelona, because the stats are there to prove my statement. It was unfair seeing the Brazilian being put in the top five-ranked, but one thing to take away is that he has set his name on the list and this season he gives another incredible performance alongside Pedri and Frenkie De Jong.
The season is still fresh so nobody can predict who will be the next holder of the award, but hopefully this time it will be a Barcelona player. So, guys, that will be all for now. Thanks for stopping by and have a good day.
