Not All Heroes Wear Cape

All heroes don't wear a cape as some of them could be family members, friends, or even strangers who can be a hero when you least expect it at the right time. These heroes have deserved every accolade bestowed upon them because truly their bravery to step in when no one is willing speaks volumes about their character and strength. In Nigeria, for my part, I barely see firefighters because I barely see fire in my community. My first experience with firefighters was not good because they arrived on the scene late in an incident that happened a couple of years ago when I was a child.

About a couple of years ago, I experienced firsthand a huge fire incident. There was this big and long building. Just three houses across from my place cut one fire out of nowhere and started burning and spreading through the whole building little by little. I can remember each time the fire entered another apartment, there was also an expulsion, and people around the burning building would give out a huge scream of fear. It was the effort of brave men that got people out of the house and they also tried to stop the fire with soap water and sand but it was a very big fire and their effort to stop it was in vain.

By the time the firefighters came, the fire had already burnt through every apartment and left nothing but ashes. The firefighters stopped the remaining fire and went in to find out what the source of the fire was, but I never got to know that part. It was a terrible day for the people who lived there, but the best thing was that no single lives were lost that day to the fire. The men who tried to stop the fire were not called by the state government to be recognised, but the people around who saw their effort will always remember them anytime they remember that fire incident.

The federal government has equipped the Nigerian Fire Service. There was a time when I saw a video about a government official parading with firefighters' trucks to aid the fire service in their operations. It was brand new and different from what the Fire Service used and equipment was given to them as well as part of the aid. The fire service has been great in recent times in stopping fires and although I did not get to see them swiftly in action on that day the fire incident happened in my presence they have responded to fire complaints swiftly in other places.

They are national heroes to the country, and knowing the type of job they do and still putting on the uniforms shows they are fearless and determined to carry out their job. So, guys, that will be all for now. Thanks for stopping by, and have a good day.

Glad to know that no life was lost in the inferno. Perhaps we do not have their contacts readily saved on our phones. Hopefully, we can have them stationed in strategic parts of every town

That was my first thought and looking back there was no fire station around my area. The government or whoever is incharge should do better.
