FC Barcelona Win Against Sevilla Put Them Closer To Real Madrid And Atletico Madrid
Good day, everyone, and welcome to my blog. The La Liga Santander just got a whole lot more interesting after yesterday's match between FC Barcelona and Sevilla on matchday 23 of the league fixtures. This weekend had a lot of highlights, and one of them was the Madrid Derby, which took place on Saturday night. Before Barcelona's match against Sevilla, I wrote a post expressing how Barcelona needs those three points against Sevilla as it is a must-win match for the Catalan side to close down the gap between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid on the league table.
FC Barcelona did go into the match and made sure to take all three points as they beat Sevilla 4-1 away from home last night. FC Barcelona ran riot even after picking up a red card in the 66th minute of the second half but still managed to score a fourth goal that sealed the match in the 88th minute of the match. Lewandoski opened the scoreline in the early minutes, and I have to commend the Polish striker for scoring that goal and being in the perfect position to make that acrobatic tap into the goalpost.
Lewandoski's goal yesterday puts him further away from Kylian Mbappe, who is closing the gap as the race for the Pichichi gets intense in the league. Fermin Lopez got a goal barely 5 minutes when he entered the pitch at the beginning of the second half but unfortunately, Fermin could not finish the match as he picked up a red car for a foul he committed against a Sevilla player and I am still confused why he got the red card because he won the ball clearly but his leg was up which got the player. VAR reviewed the tackle and decided the red card was the appropriate offence by Fermin. I just have to get updated with the rules these days because it can be confusing at times.
Barcelona still held their ground. Thanks to Raphinha for scoring that incredible goal before Fermin was sent off the pitch. Raphinha this season has been amazing as the Brazilian now has 40g/a this season alone which is insane from the same gut most Barcelona fanbase called a flop in the squad. Raphinha is on the right path to winning the Ballon d'Or, and although I would prefer Lewandoski to win the award before he retires, Raphinha right now seems the best candidate for that award this year.
FC Barcelona are on the right track to reclaim their spot back on the league table and I can confidently say Real Madrid will drop more points because of their tight schedule in the Champions League, plus their injury problems in the squad. Hansi Flick has turned this team around, and I am 100% sure the Barcelona board will be preparing a renewal soon for Hansi Flick, as his contract is expected to run out in 2026. The title race will get interesting from here on, and I am looking forward to seeing how it all goes down in a couple of months.
So, guys, that will be all for now. Thanks for stopping by and have a good day.
