FC Barcelona Knocked Out Of The Copa Del Rey By Athletic Club
Week in and week out I have been trying hard to keep my cool with Barcelona but it seems they are trying hard to upset me and other supporters around the world. The same problem keeps happening and no correction has been made by both the players and coaching staff. Barcelona is a team that must compete in any level of European competition they find themselves in and that has not been happening for the past three years now which is a pain for all Barcelona supporters.
Last night Barcelona faced Athletic Club away from home in the quarter-final of the Copa Del Rey. It was a match Barca had to win to put the hopes of a treble in the minds of Barca fans but that dream and hope crashed down last night as Barca suffered a huge defeat against Athletic Club. Barca conceded the first goal of the match in the early 1st minute which seems to be a norm now this season since the defenders have forgotten how to do their jobs.
The Catalan giant levelled the scoreline in the 20th minute from a mistake by an Athletic Club defender whose main intent was to clear the ball but it deflected off Lewandoski and went into the goalpost. Barcelona scored their second goal of the match with a beautiful play from Lamine Yamal who went solo and scored an incredible goal. Lamine Yamal is special and I know Xavi is tempted to start the youngest every game but can't so it wouldn't be the case for Pedri who has been struggling to get fit because of his consistent playing time on the field.
Everything looked ok and I thought Barcelona would win the game but Athletic Club had other plans in the second half and it happened against Barcelona conceded one minute later after the sound of the second half whistle and the game was tied. Barcelona were searching for the third goal but couldn't find it and when Lamine Yamal got a clear opportunity to seal the match for Barcelona in the 86th minute he played the ball wild and it came back to hunt the team in extra time.
The Williams brothers killed the game as they scored in the first and second half of the extra time, totally knocking out Barcelona from the Copa Del Rey competition. When Xavi was interviewed after the game he said the team did their best but in the end, the chances they had but could not execute came back to hunt them and that has to change. Xavi also said that Barcelona is a club that has to compete and if the club does not win any title this season he will resign as manager of FC Barcelona.
The Xavi out-group will be happy with this statement from Xavi because I still don't get why some Barca fans are so toxic and are constantly pushing for Xavi to be sacked when this same man has done a good job for the club. Let's see how things go at the end of the season. I hope Xavi can turn things around quickly because the UCL will be back soon and Barca has to work harder in Laliga if they want to have a chance of the league at the end of the season.
