FC Barcelona Beat Mallorca To Move Second On The League Table
Last night FC Barcelona played at home against Mallorca on matchday 28th of Laliga Santander. Barcelona went into this match without two key midfielders who were out due to injury and Ronald Araujo who got suspended in the last game after he picked his fifth yellow card. The game was pretty much decided from my end because I expected Barcelona to beat Mallorca but then this same Mallorca have been a little bit stubborn against top teams in La Liga this season.
Mallorca knocked Girona out of the Copa Del Rey which they have currently booked their place in the final of the competition and they still got the better of Girona again last week when they faced in Laliga. They have a pretty much equal chance of winning when they face Athletic Club on the 6th of April. They also gave Real Madrid a lot of problems at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium but Madrid managed to leave the match with three points as they scored only a goal in the game.
Barcelona started the game at a strong pace as usual and lost stems 20 minutes later in the game. Gundogan, who I expected to take charge and lead the team, missed a penalty in the first half. I am pretty sure if Lewandoski started the game in the first half he would have not missed that chance in front of goal. The game went on and anything Mallorca had the ball they looked dangerous to score a goal but the defence was well organized yesterday.
Pau Cubarsi has been solid since he joined the first team this season. I have to give a lot of credit to the young player from La Masia because no one expected he would be this good in the CB role and the amazing part is that he is just 17 years of age. I have said it before and I will say it again. La Masia is the best academy in the world and no other football academy comes close to the quality of young players La Masia produces each year.
Barcelona scored the first and only goal of the match in the 76th minute of the second half. Lamine Yamal scored a beautiful goal to set Barcelona up for the three crucial points. Yamal is a gem and there is still more to come from this kid, honestly, he is the best player in the squad currently without a doubt. I just hope Xavi manages him well to avoid another Ansu Fati case.
Barcelona are currently second on the league table with two points clear of Girona and five points away from Real Madrid with both teams still having a match at hand to play. It seems the chance to win the league is still on but I don't want to give myself any hopes. The team needs to keep winning games and will see how it goes in a couple of weeks. The next target for Xavi and the boys is the Champions League match against Napoli this Tuesday which is a must-win, let see how it goes this week for the Catalan giant.
So guys that will be all for now. Thanks for stopping by and have a good day.
