FC Barcelona Beat Getafe 4-0 To Move Second Place On The Laliga Table
Good day, everyone, and welcome to another weekend football post. It has been an eventful week in football from the Uefa Champions League to the league matches played yesterday and will continue later today. It has been a rocky season for defending Champions FC Barcelona in the league this season, there have been a lot of problems which resulted in Xavi making the decision to leave at the end of the season which is no news to many of us here in the community.
This week, FC Barcelona played their first UCL round of sixteen since 2021 against Napoli. I should have covered the game but I decided to sit the game out because I was not impressed with the team performance even though they played a draw away from home but they should have won the game as Napoli is not as fierce as the was last season and on top of that Barcelona has a good head to head record against the defending Italian champions. Barcelona have to turn this around when they meet next month as Barca will have the home advantage, so it should be a win for the Catalan giant.
Yesterday, Barcelona resumed their league campaign at home against Getafe. The match yesterday was important for Barca to move to the second place of the league table and also give themselves a shot in closing down the gap between them and Real Madrid and they succeeded in doing so yesterday and also played fine football. Barcelona defeated Getafe by 4 goals to nothing at home which was impressive because it has been a long time Barca had won with a long goal margin and kept a clean sheet to it as well because the team has been conceding a lot of goals.
The starting lineup was the same but just a little change as Xavi dropped Lamine Yamal and started Raphinha which is good because Yamal has played long minutes and he needs to rest because he is just sixteen and he has to be managed well so it won't be like Ansu Fati case which is still happening because Ansu still picked up an injury some weeks ago in Brighton. Raphinha did a good job yesterday as he scored a goal and gave an assist which Barca fans won't see the player do more even though we expect him to be able to take on a defender in a 1v1 situation which he can't still do for now.
Joao Felix was part of the starting lineup and also got himself a goal yesterday, which was assisted by Andres Christensen. Christensen has been solid in his new role as a DM, and there are still a few things he needs to do to get better, but overall, he was great. It was nice to see Joao Felix back to scoring goals and hope to see more from him during these final months before his loan ends. Frenkie De Jong got himself on the scoresheet as well yesterday. Frenkie has been a Barca consistent player this season, and I hope Barca doesn't lose him in the summer window.
Fermin Lopez got himself on the score sheet in the 90th minute of the match. Fermin is a great kid and still has a lot of years ahead, so he should keep his head down and work harder. Barcelona played a good game yesterday, and I applaud the team . I hope they keep on this form and push to have a chance of winning the league title this season. So, guys, that will be all for now. Thanks for stopping by, and have a good day.
