Champions League Prematch Review: Napoli Vs FC Barcelona
It's Champions League week again and I am super excited for the upcoming matches this evening and tomorrow's match between Napoli and FC Barcelona. The two clubs have had a long history together facing each other in European competition and Barcelona has always come out top against the reigning Scudetto champions of Italy however Barcelona's form this season is giving a lot of fans serious doubt about how they will perform against Napoli tomorrow in the Champions League.
Serie A defending Champions Napoli are struggling this season in the league. They are currently 9th on the table this season and possibly may not play in the UCL or Europa League next season. It's no surprise Napoli is currently in this state this season because, after the performance they pulled up last season to win the Scudetto with former manager Luciano Spalletti, there is bound to be a relapse between the players because what they did has not been done since late Maradona won the Scudetto when he played at the club many years ago.
Luciano Spalletti decided to retire after the end of the season to leave the club as a legend which is understandable because he wants to be remembered as the coach who won the Scudetto for Napoli and not the coach who was sacked because of poor performance so since the start of the new season Walter Mazzarri has took up the job as Napoli head coach but now it has been confirmed by Fabrizio Romano that Mazzarri has been sacked yesterday and would be replaced by Francesco Calzona who will be the interim coach for the rest of the season.
It was a shock and a big drastic move made by the Napoli board ahead of the UCL game against Barcelona which will take place tomorrow. FC Barcelona could exploit these new changes in Napoli camp and go in tomorrow night and win the game to increase their chance of finishing it up back home when they meet early in March. Barcelona is not off the hook as well because they have been going through a bad season as well and the defense line has been horrible this season so they have to be on guard and avoid any slip-up against Napoli's front attacks.
Joao Felix is back in training with the squad and there are possibilities he will be already for the game tomorrow with his team but I won't want Felix to be pushed into the game to avoid relapse considering he is just back from injury so the coaching team have to take it slow and just maybe bring him into the game in the second half. Lewandowski seems to be getting his form back which will be needed in tomorrow's match so he better take his chances in front of goal seriously because the team will be backing on his ability to score goals.
It's going to be an interesting game and I am looking forward to seeing how it plays out tomorrow. So guys that will be all for now. Thanks for stopping by and have a good day.
