Barcelona's Midfield: A Fierce Battle for Starting Spots Amid Rising Stars Part 2
Good day everyone, and welcome to my blog. So I am picking up from where I left off in my last post. Barcelona's midfield is a thing of beauty and needs to be studied because it has been incredible to see the season begin with the way things are looking, every player in that role needs to give their best to secure a place in the starting lineup This season as any little slip up could give another player that spots easily on the starting lineup.
One of the big names in midfield for this generation is Frenkie De Jong just recovered from an injury that took him out towards the end of last season, and also the Dutchman could not partake with the Netherlands national team in the Euros 2024 competition. Frenkie De Jong is having a slow start to the season under Hansi Flick, and it's quite understandable because he is just recovering from an injury and is not also getting much game time.
Barcelona's midfield performance this season has brought up a lot of questions about Frenkie De Jong finding his way back to the starting lineup and honestly, it going to be quite tough because with the level Marc Casado, Pedri, and Dani Olmo have been performing lately Frenkie De Jong will have to up his game and work twice as hard on the pitch. It's now a question of whether Frenkie De Jong can rise to the challenge because, as it stands, the midfield can function without him playing on the field.
There won't be any saga concerning Frenkie De Jong's contract renewal because now it is simple. If he wants to continue at Barcelona then he signs a new contract and if he doesn't want to renew his contract the doors will be open for him to leave as there are now many players that can play his role at the club, so everything now depends on Frenkie De Jong decision at the end of the season.
Another Barcelona midfielder that has been impressive since last season is Fermin Lopez. The Spanish midfielder was a key player for the Spain national team in the 2024 Olympics as he won the golden medal with the national team. Fermin Lopez was also vital in Barcelona's victory against Bayern Munich as he provided two assists in that match. Fermin Lopez is a fighter, and I know he will give his all on the pitch whenever he gets the chance; looking forward to seeing how Hansi Flick utilizes him for the rest of the season.
Pablo Torre is an underrated player and it pains me that he is not getting much playing time. Pablo Torre never fails to show himself when allowed to play, and that is what I saw when Barcelona faced Sevilla as the youngest came into the match in the second half and scored two goals in six minutes. It will be difficult for Pablo Torre to get regular matches, but I just hope Hansi Flick tries to give the youngster some game time.
FC Barcelona is stacked in the midfield position with quality players, and it is all up to Hansi Flick to get the best out of all the players. So, guys, that will be all for now. Thanks for stopping by and have a good day.
