Barcelona's Goalkeeping Dilemma: Szczesny Over Peña – Right Call or Risky Move?
Good day, everyone, and welcome to my blog. It has been noticed for the past few games played by FC Barcelona that there has been a new shift in the goalkeeping position, which was once held by Inaki Pena, who is the second goalkeeper at the club and has been put on the bench by Hansi Flick. The first report I saw when Inaki Pena was first put on the bench was during the Spanish Super Cup as it was reported that Hansi Flick removed Inaki Pena from the starting lineup because he came late to training which is understandable as a manager he needed to show discipline so no player things they are above anyone on the team.
It was a good move by Hansi Flick, but since then Hansi Flick has seemed to prefer Szczesny on his team to Inaki Pena reliable sources say that Hansi Flick has said Szczesny is the number one goalkeeper of the squad which is not the I think should be said because this could put Inaki Pena of balance and could also affect his performance during training plus on the pitch when giving a chance. Inaki Pena is not that great, but he is more clinical when it comes to making decisions from the box than Szczesny at the moment.
The Polish goalkeeper has made a lot of errors in recent matches that could have caused Barcelona the match and a prime example will be the El Clasico final in the Spanish Super Cup where he picked up a red card earlier in the second half that caused Barcelona to play the rest of the 40 plus minutes with 10 men but still Real Madrid where unable to make a comeback in that match. Another example will be an insane comeback between FC Barcelona vs Benfica in the Champions League as two of the goals scored were an error committed by the Polish keeper.
Szczesny becoming the name of the goalkeeper is what most Barcelona fans wanted a month ago when Szczesny was put on the bench. I can remember seeing posts and tweets about how Hansi Flick needs to utilize Szczesny more and put Inaki Pena on the bench, but now those same people are not pushing for Inaki Pena to be played by Hansi Flick, which is why there is a difference between a manager and fans. Hansi Flick has made his decision, so now it's for the fans to support and see how it goes in the long run.
Inaki Pena will definitely be given chances as we still have a long season to go and I am sure he will give his all on the pitch when given the chance to play. FC Barcelona will take on Alaves tomorrow, and I am sure Szczesny will be starting that match, except Hansi Flick decides to give Inaki Pena this chance, but we will see at the end. So, guys, that will be all for now. Thanks for stopping by and have a good day.
