A walk through Vedado / Un paseo por el Vedado (eng-esp)

Hi, guys.
Walking is part of the exercises my trainer prescribed. So I decided to go for a walk in Havana's Vedado neighborhood.

I started on one of my favorite avenues, Avenida de los Presidentes, better known as Calle G.

This is one of the most well-known Adidas streets for all Havana residents, as it's a major transit street for traveling to and from other municipalities. But above all, it's well-known for the enormous nightlife that takes place around this double avenue.

It is said that every Havana resident passes through this avenue at least once a year. The same goes for car owners, so it's no surprise to find cars from this year or cars from past centuries, like this Jaguar from the first half of the 20th century.

The Avenue of the Presidents is notable for its grand promenade between the two streets that comprise it. Several statues honoring various Latin American cultural figures and presidents stand along this promenade.

On a street parallel to G, stands La UNEAC, one of the most beautiful buildings in the capital. and the home of Cuba's artistic avant-garde.

Another place that brings together the country's artistic avant-garde is this one: The Dulce María Loynaz Center.
This beautiful mansion was the home of the poet and Cervantes Prize winner for literature.
Unfortunately, it was closed, so I can't show you the wonders of its interior, but I promise to bring them to you soon.

Far from there, on my way home, I passed through the Colón Cemetery, where I'll only show you this wonderful firefighters' monument.
This cemetery is one of the most beautiful on our continent due to the immense amount of art preserved in its cemeteries.
However, that's a topic for another day.

The views of the Vedado cityscape are incredible. Above all, for these shades of color created when the light of dusk hits buildings that have lost their original paint but still retain their beauty and poise.

Right now, a new building has changed the city's skyline. It's a new hotel on K Street, and when finished, it will be the tallest building in the country. It still has the crane on its side, so we can't consider it finished.

A curious fact is that the Vedado neighborhood everyone is talking about isn't a municipality in the capital, but rather one of its neighborhoods. The municipality itself is called Plaza de la Revolución, after this famous square.

Several of the largest public mobilizations have taken place in Revolution Square, both for commemorative events such as May Day and for religious services such as masses celebrated by Popes John Paul II, Benedict XVI, and Francis.
The Peace Without Borders concert was also held in this square.

Hola, chicos.
Como parte de los ejercicios que me indicó mi entrenador, está caminar. Así que decidí salir a caminar por el Vedado habanero.

Comencé por una de mis avenidas preferidas, la Avenida de los Presidentes, más conocida por Calle G.

Esta es una de las Adidas más conocidas por todos los habaneros ya que es una calle de tránsito para viajar hacia y desde otros municipios. Pero sobre todo es muy conocida por la enorme vida nocturna que tiene lugar alrededor de esta avenida doble.

Se dice que todo habanero pasa al menos una vez al año por esta avenida. Lo mismo sucede con los dueños de los autos punto así que no es de extrañar de encontrarnos a autos del año o automóviles de siglos pasados como lo es este Jaguar de la primera mitad del siglo XX.

La avenida de los presidentes se destaca por tener un gran paseo entre las dos calles que la conforman. En este paseo están erigidas varias estatuas en honor a distintas personalidades de la cultura y presidentes latinoamericanos.

En una calle paralela a G, se encuentra La UNEAC, uno de los edificios más hermosos de la capital y la sede de la vanguardia artística cubana.

Otro de los sitios que reúne a la vanguardia artística del país es este: El Centro Dulce María Loynaz.
Esta hermosa casona fue el lugar de la poeta y Premio Cervantes de literatura.
Lamentablemente estaba cerrada, por lo que no puedo mostrarles las maravillas de su interior, pero prometo traérselo pronto.

Lejos de allá y de camino a casa atravesé el cementerio de Colón del cual solo le mostraré esta maravilla de monumento a los bomberos.
Este cementerio este es más hermosos de nuestro continente debido a la inmensa cantidad de horas de arte que resguardan los panteones.
Sin embargo esto es un tema para otro día.

Las vistas del paisaje citadino del Vedado son increíbles. Sobre todo, por estas tonalidades de colores que se crean cuando incide la luz del ocaso, sobre los edificios que ya han perdido su pintura original, pero que aún mantienen su belleza y porte.

En estos momentos un nuevo edificio ha cambiado la vista citadina. Es un nuevo hotel en la calle K, y será, cuando esté concluido, el edificio más alto del país. Aún tiene la grúa a su costado, por lo que no podemos darlo por terminado.

Un dato curioso es que El Vedado del que todos hablan no es un municipio capitalino sino uno de sus barrios. El municipio como tal se llama Plaza de la Revolución, debido a esta famosa plaza.

En la Plaza de la Revolución se han realizado varias de Las mayores movilizaciones del pueblo ya sea para actos conmemorativos como el primero de mayo así como actos religiosos como las misas realizadas por los Papas Juan Pablo II, Benedicto XVI y Francisco.
También en esta plaza se realizó el concierto Paz Sin Fronteras.
