I had an Hectic Start to the Year due to Procrastination
Hello Hive learners, happy new year. I hope this year has been good !!.
Normally, the start of a new year is always a joyous one. Our neighborhood is always full of people celebrating new year as we receive substantial food and gifts from our neighbors which makes it interesting. Yeah, it happens every year. But this year was very different.
I've said it before that I'm in FUNAAB in my introductory post which I published last year October. At the moment, I'm in my final year, you know before moving to final year, in my 400 Level second semester, I was engaged in an IT program for which I was posted to a company of my choice for IT. This was around September till December last year. During that time, I had procrastinated a lot in writing my logbooks. The activities that was supposed to be written weekly was suspended due to different personal activities I was engaged in. I was really focused on my personal progress and projects in AI and other works that I didn't have any time for my logbook, and I wasn't able to take many records.
So before the Christmas, I was able to write 4 weeks out of 18 weeks, but I had not done anything about my report. I was consoling myself that I've done this tasks of writing logbooks and reports before, and that it was simple and straight forward.
During the Christmas, I went home thinking that I'll be able to finish my logbook, that it will only remain the report to type. When I was at home, I was writing the logbook at least one page per day. At some point, I wasn't able to write anything again because I was very calm. I was so calm that I was frightened.
Long story short, New year came. My logbook was in week 13, I had not started my report at all, and we're told that our defense was on the 4th of January 2024. I looked at myself, and I was like "I had messed up" as it was due to procrastination. So I had to rush to school to finish my logbook and start my report. I made sure to finish the logbook on Jan 1, but I couldn't, I shifted it to the second day, Jan 2. I just had to find a way to finish it on the second day , January 2nd.
I started typing the report that night (January 2). When I started the typing, I noticed that it was not as easy as I expected, I thought that since I was physically present during the IT program and did the IT well that it will be easier for me, but I was wrong. Totally wrong. So I typed the report overnight that day and I had a little sleep (about 1 and a half hours) till the second day.
On the third day (January 3), I continued with the typing of the report, but I realized something that the day of the IT defense was on Thursday and as we know, Thursdays are always environmental day for shops, and that the printing shop will not open till 10 o'clock, but the defense is starting 8 o'clock. That was when I was really under pressure. Luckily for me, I was able to receive some help from Gifted (@startstrings01) for his report, which really helped me to be able to be very fast with the report typing. The time went by, from 12 o'clock till 5 o'clock.
At that time (5 o'clock), I was very tired because I had not eaten since I had arrived at school. One of my neighbor was very kind to be able to buy me potatoes which helped me that night. I managed to complete the report by 8 o'clock that night. But the printing shop has already closed. Throughout the night, the only thing on my mind was how to print the report.
On the day of the defense, Gifted (@starstring01) and Daniel (@monioluwa) entered school premises to search for any printing shop that was available, and I was surveying off the campus for any printing shop. Fortunately, they were able to see one at a very discounted price, and they were able to print it before the defense starts.
So that was how my first four days of the year went, the defense went well by the way, and I was able to successfully complete the process required for the IT program. Hopefully the result will be outstanding.
