It was built on August 10,1968, and inaugurated on December 15, 1974, by president Soeharto. The completion of the construction was delayed. The Baiturrahman Grand Mosque is the pride of Semarang residents.

The mosque serves as a place of worship for muslims, performing the five daily prayers, a social activity also educational activities. Some time ago, I was in Semarang and stopped by the Baiturrahman Mosque to join the Magrib prayer in congregation.

The front yard of the mosque has a pond decorated with lights and a swaying fountain. The front yard on the side, planted with grass and shade trees, creates a harmonious. The white stairs are quite wide and clear as a guide for the congregation who Will go up the second floor where congregational prayers are carried out.

Before going to the second floor, I went to the ablution area, apparently the building where is modern and tradisional Kamboja trees, water and spotlights give an artistic impression. Also the arrangements of lights in the corridor where ablution is.

After from the ablution area, then I went up to the second floor, seeing the interior is quite spacious, high because the celling follows the shape of the roof. The roof of the Baiturrahman grand Mosque combines traditional and modern styles.

The traditional Limasan shaped roof is finished with modern techniques. In the front yard, there is a tower with a tall Limasan shaped roof. The tower's function is to complement the mosque. Another function of the tower is to place speakers in each corner, which Will be heard when the call to prayer is recited at each prayer time.
