While it is a dream for management to spot someone whom is ready to undertake more responsibilities and moving up the ranks into management, quite often there is a mismatch in terms of expectation and reality.

There are many whom wish to climb the corporate ladder because of the title and of course the remuneration package that associates with it. But often, these are people who think too highly of themselves and not what the management really wants. And there are people on the other spectrum whereby the management wants them but they do not have the desire to get bogged down by the company.

And this is why, many companies faced the issue of lack of proper succession and end up those whom are not capable end up rising, making the people below feel worse due to a poor leader placed on them for their career nd further attrition begin.

So to all C-suites and above leaders, in order for sustained leadership within the company, you need to look harder and observe before promoting someone into leadership position. Do not rush as it will kickstart the downfall of your company.

Excellent approach. Leadership is something many people possess, but not everyone is aware of it; in fact, employers often don't even notice it. This becomes apparent when someone, without seeking recognition, earns it from others.

I guess sometimes a 360 survey might aid in selection better.
