In general, we should be nice to everyone. However in the workplace, we might need to step up our guard against those whom manipulate others in the workplace. These are people that take your kindness for granted and make use of you to complete things that they deem not productive or not worthy of the time.

These are people when they need you will suddenly become super friendly to you but with one goal in mind, to transfer work to you and make use of your kindness to help them complete. In my workplace, due to the nature of the work, not every piece of work is glamorous but all of them are essential and that is where things get a little tricky.

The key to preventing this is to be mindful of people around you, know your work boundaries so that others will not take advantage of you. And always remember to remind others in a subtle manner that, "I'm not prey!"
