Being hurt by others after a few times can often result in one building up a fence of offence. This is because, one will start to fear of being exposed to hurts inflicted by others. And when this fence becomes more and more establish, one would find that they are increasingly isolated from others.

This is dangerous because such individuals might becoming increasingly social awkward to a point whereby they hide in their own shell, reduce their risk appetite or start trusting no one. It will become a social problem if not addressed.

The key to tearing up these fences is actually to encourage these people to help groups or social circles that are less intimidating. And typically it will require certain level of facilitation and empathy to let the victims of hurt to know that not everyone in the world are baddies. Help them re-establish their confidence and slowly demolish those fences and back into the embrace of society.
