Final de temporada regular en la NFL (SPA-ENG)
Uno de los escasos deportes de gran repercusión que se disputan en el crudo invierno boreal acaba de finalizar su temporada regular y comienza la etapa que todos buscan: los playoffs, que definirán en las próximas semanas a los dos equipos que jugarán el Super Bowl LX el 8 de febrero próximo en el Levi's Stadium de Santa Clara, California, el hogar de los 49ers; de allí saldrá el campeón de la temporada.
Para llegar a ello, han transcurrido rápidamente las 18 jornadas estipuladas de la etapa regular y, aunque muchos desean que esto se extienda, debemos comprender que, en un deporte tan duro, de tanta rigurosidad, con enorme esfuerzo físico y alto grado de contacto, quizás esto no se pueda concretar por el momento. Ya bastante se ha ampliado de 16 a 18 encuentros en los últimos años.
Y hubo algunas grandes sorpresas entre los clasificados, como también decepciones importantes.
Por supuesto, los fanáticos de todos los equipos se decepcionan cuando sus preferidos no acceden a estos juegos de postemporada; sin embargo, me refiero a decepciones específicas de equipos de los cuales se esperaba más de lo que dieron y no solo por parte de sus fanáticos sino de todo el ambiente especializado.
La gran decepción fueron los Kansas City Chiefs, los múltiples campeones liderados por Pat Mahomes, el mariscal de campo mejor considerado de los últimos años, defeccionaron totalmente y quedaron eliminados de los playoffs por primera vez en 10 años, eso ocurrió varias fechas antes del final de esta etapa regular. Para peor, su jugador estrella tuvo una grave lesión que probablemente lo dejará marginado hasta más allá del comienzo de la próxima temporada.
Otros equipos de los cuales se esperaba mucho más de lo que finalmente consiguieron fueron Detroit Lions y Minnesota Vikings en la muy peleada división norte de la Conferencia Nacional, los primeros eliminados tempranamente y los segundos se esperanzaron con JJ McCarthy que no dio la talla luego de la salida de Sam Darnold, la última gran decepción fueron los Baltimore Ravens que con el fichaje del corredor estrella Derrick Henry esperaban un salto de calidad que finalmente no se concretó.
Ya no considero una desagradable sorpresa la eliminación rutinaria del equipo de la estrella solitaria: Dallas Cowboys, con un mariscal que es el mejor pago de toda la NFL y que falla una y otra vez en el objetivo de clasificar a su equipo a la postemporada. Inexplicable.
La sorpresa quizás más grata estuvo del lado de New England Patriots equipo que resurgió de sus propias cenizas luego de varios años de oscuridad post Tom Brady, en tan solo los 6 primeros juegos de la temporada igualaron la marca de victorias de todo el año anterior, dato elocuente que demuestra la enorme diferencia entre la performance anterior y esta, ganaron su división cómodamente, dos juegos por arriba del gran rival a vencer: los Bills de Buffalo que si bien clasificaron a la postemporada, dejaron un sabor a poco.
Los Denver Broncos destacaron por encima de las consideraciones previas y se quedaron con el Oeste de la Conferencia Americana, por su buena defensa, por su gran entrenador y también por la mala campaña de los Kansas City Chiefs, acostumbrados a ganar esta división recurrentemente.
Otra sorpresa, desde mi punto de vista, han sido los Jacksonville Jaguars que se quedaron con la siempre disputada división de la Conferencia Americana Sur, un juego por encima de los Houston Texans, quienes también demostraron ser un excelente equipo sorprendiendo a muchos expertos y aficionados.
En un plano de igualdad destaco las buenas campañas de los Steelers que con el veteranísimo Aaron Rodgers como mariscal lograron quedarse con mucho sufrimiento con la AFC Norte relegando en el último segundo a los Baltimore Ravens al fallar estos un gol de campo que hubiera invertido las posiciones en el encuentro entre ambos equipos; por último, los Chicago Bears que para mi fueron una de las sorpresas más importantes de esta campaña imponiéndose en la división Norte de la NFC por encima de Packers, Vikings y Lions, no lo esperaba.
Así amigos, ha finalizado esta etapa regular y ahora comienza la diversión mayor, este próximo fin de semana tendremos lo que se ha dado en llamar "Wild Card Weekend", el sábado 10 se enfrentarán Rams contra Panthers y Packers con Bears, el domingo 11 Bills con Jaguars, 49ers con Eagles y Chargers con Patrios, la fecha culmina el lunes 12 con el encuentro entre Rangers y Steelers. Mientras tanto, Denver Broncos y Seattle Seahawks tendrán descanso, como es habitual, por ser los mejores clasificados en cada una de las dos conferencias.
Seguiremos atentamente esta gran definición de un deporte espectacular que está entre mis preferencias.
NFL regular season finale
One of the few major sports played during the harsh Northern Hemisphere winter has just finished its regular season and is now entering the stage everyone is looking forward to: the playoffs. These playoffs will determine, in the coming weeks, the two teams that will play in Super Bowl LX on February 8th at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California, home of the 49ers; the champion will be crowned from there.
To get to this point, the 18 scheduled games of the regular season have passed quickly, and although many would like to see it extended, we must understand that in such a tough, demanding sport, with enormous physical exertion and a high degree of contact, this may not be possible at the moment. The season has already been extended considerably from 16 to 18 games in recent years.
And there were some big surprises among the qualifiers, as well as some significant disappointments.
Of course, fans of all teams are disappointed when their favorites don't make it to these postseason games; However, I'm referring to specific disappointments from teams that were expected to deliver more than they did, not just by their fans but by the entire basketball community.
The biggest disappointment was the Kansas City Chiefs. The multiple champions, led by Pat Mahomes, the most highly regarded quarterback of recent years, completely fell short and were eliminated from the playoffs for the first time in 10 years. This happened several games before the end of the regular season. To make matters worse, their star player suffered a serious injury that will likely sideline him well into next season.
Other teams that were expected to perform much better than they ultimately did were the Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings in the fiercely competitive NFC North. The Lions were eliminated early, and the Vikings had high hopes for JJ McCarthy, who failed to live up to expectations after Sam Darnold's departure. The last major disappointment was the Baltimore Ravens, who, with the signing of star running back Derrick Henry, were expected to make a significant leap forward, which ultimately didn't materialize.
I no longer consider the routine elimination of the Dallas Cowboys a nasty surprise, especially with a quarterback who is the highest-paid in the entire NFL and who repeatedly fails to lead his team to the postseason. Inexplicable.
Perhaps the most pleasant surprise came from the New England Patriots, a team that rose from the ashes after several years of post-Tom Brady darkness. In just the first six games of the season, they matched their entire previous year's winning record, a telling statistic that demonstrates the enormous difference between their previous performance and this one. They comfortably won their division, two games ahead of their main rival, the Buffalo Bills, who, while they did qualify for the playoffs, left a bad taste in their mouths.
The Denver Broncos exceeded all expectations and won the AFC West, thanks to their strong defense, their great coach, and also the poor season of the Kansas City Chiefs, who are accustomed to winning this division regularly.
Another surprise, from my point of view, was the Jacksonville Jaguars, who won the always competitive AFC South division, one game ahead of the Houston Texans, who also proved to be an excellent team, surprising many experts and fans.
On a more equal footing, I must highlight the strong seasons of the Steelers, who, with veteran Aaron Rodgers at quarterback, managed to win the AFC North after a hard-fought victory, relegating the Baltimore Ravens at the last second when the Ravens missed a field goal that would have reversed the standings in the game between the two teams. Finally, the Chicago Bears, who for me were one of the biggest surprises of this season, won the NFC North division over the Packers, Vikings, and Lions—something I didn't expect.
So, folks, the regular season is over, and now the real fun begins! This coming weekend, we have what's been dubbed "Wild Card Weekend." On Saturday, the 10th, the Rams will face the Panthers, and the Packers will play the Bears. On Sunday the 11th, the Bills will take on the Jaguars, the 49ers will meet the Eagles, and the Chargers will play the Patriots. The weekend concludes on Monday, the 12th, with the Rangers taking on the Steelers. Meanwhile, the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks will have a bye, as is customary for being the top seeds in their respective conferences.
We'll be following this exciting conclusion to a spectacular sport that's among my favorites with great interest.

En los deportes también llega el fin de las dinastías, seguramente en el futuro el equipo se renovará y vendrán, eventualmente, nuevas etapas de éxitos.
Fíjate en los Patriotas de Nueva Inglaterra, años han pasado desde la época de gloria cuando Tom Brady lideró una generación extraordinaria que los llenó de títulos y gloria, ahora parecería que han encontrado una nueva senda, que no será como la anterior seguramente, pero que les permite ilusionar a sus seguidores.
