Winter Charging Chaos: DC Aborts With My Ioniq 5

Der Parkplatz war voller Schnee, der Himmel grau, und mein Ioniq 5 sah aus, als hätte ihn jemand mit Puderzucker bestäubt. So ein typischer Wintermoment, in dem du schon weißt, dass alles länger dauert. Du läufst vorsichtiger, du fasst alles mit kalten Fingern an, und du hoffst einfach, dass wenigstens das Laden schnell und stressfrei klappt.

Ich habe eingesteckt und auf das vertraute Klacken gewartet. Für einen kurzen Moment sah alles normal aus. Der Ladevorgang startete, die Anzeige reagierte, und ich dachte wirklich, okay, diesmal laden wir einfach und fahren weiter.

The parking lot was covered in snow, the sky was grey, and my Ioniq 5 looked like it had been dipped in powdered sugar. It was one of those winter moments where you already know everything will take longer. You walk slower, you touch everything carefully, and you just hope that at least the charging stop will be quick and painless.

I plugged in and waited for that familiar click. For a short second everything looked normal. The session started, the display reacted, and I thought, okay, let us just charge and go.

Immer wieder die gleiche Geschichte

Aber dann ging es wieder los. Der Ladevorgang brach ab. Keine große Meldung, keine hilfreiche Erklärung, einfach wieder ein Abbruch. Ich habe es erneut versucht, und noch einmal, und mit jedem Versuch merkst du, wie die Geduld kleiner wird. Es ist nicht mal nur die Zeit, die nervt, sondern diese Unsicherheit. Du stehst da in der Kälte und weißt nicht, ob die Säule spinnt oder ob dein Auto gerade ein Problem hat.

Im Winter schiebt man die Schuld automatisch zuerst nach draußen. Das Kabel ist steif, der Stecker eiskalt, die Säule träge, das Netz schwach. Das erzählen wir uns alle, weil es logisch klingt.

But then it happened. The charging session stopped. No long message, no helpful explanation, just another abort. I tried again, and again, and with every attempt you feel how your patience gets smaller. It is not even the time that hurts the most, it is the uncertainty. You stand there in the cold and you do not know if the problem is the station or your car.

In winter you automatically blame the outside world first. The cable is stiff, the plug is cold, the station is slow, the network is weak. That is what we all tell ourselves because it sounds realistic.

Der Moment, in dem die Daten alles verändert haben

Was bei mir den Schalter umgelegt hat, waren die Diagnosewerte von Hyundai. Ein Wert sprang so extrem heraus, dass es sich fast unwirklich anfühlte. Draußen waren es ungefähr minus sechs Grad, aber das Auto zeigte für den DC Eingang eine Temperatur von einhundertundeins Grad.

Einhundertundeins Grad sind keine kleine Abweichung. Das ist ein Alarmzeichen. Wenn das Auto glaubt, dass der DC Pfad überhitzt, bricht es den Ladevorgang ab. Nicht, weil es dich ärgern will, sondern weil es das System schützen muss.

In dem Moment haben wir es klar ausgesprochen. Das muss etwas mit einem Sensor zu tun haben oder mit der Verkabelung. Irgendwo zwischen Ladebuchse und Hochvolt System stimmt etwas nicht.

What finally changed my view was the diagnostic data from Hyundai. One value stood out so hard that it almost felt unreal. While the outside temperature was around minus six degrees, the car recorded a DC input temperature of one hundred and one degrees.

One hundred and one degrees is not a small deviation. That is a red flag. If the car believes the DC charging path is overheating, it will stop the session. Not because it wants to annoy you, but because it has to protect the system.

In that moment we said it clearly. This has to be sensor related or wiring related. Something is wrong between the charge port area and the high voltage system.

Hyundai bestätigt: Garantiefall

Und jetzt gibt es die offizielle Bestätigung. Hyundai hat es als Garantiefall anerkannt. In der Werkstatt wird der Leitungssatz getauscht, der vom Bereich der Ladeklappe bis Richtung Batterie führt. In ungefähr vierzehn Tagen soll es soweit sein.

Ich freue mich nicht darüber, dass etwas getauscht werden muss, aber ich bin erleichtert, weil unsere Vermutung richtig war. Wir haben uns das nicht eingebildet. Es war nicht nur Pech mit Ladesäulen. Dahinter steckt ein echter technischer Grund.

Und jetzt bin ich gespannt, wie sich das nach der Reparatur anfühlt. Ich will einfach einen normalen DC Ladevorgang, der durchläuft. Einstecken, laden, weiterfahren. Ohne Drama, ohne ständige Neustarts, ohne eisige Finger, während man auf den Bildschirm starrt.

And now we have the official confirmation. Hyundai accepted it as a warranty case. The workshop will replace the cable harness that runs from the charge port area to the battery system. In about fourteen days it should be done.

I am not happy that something needs to be replaced, but I am relieved because our suspicion was right. We were not imagining things. It was not just bad luck with charging stations. There is a real technical reason behind those aborts.

Now I really want to see the difference after the repair. I want a normal DC session that simply runs. Plug in, charge, leave. No drama, no repeated starts, no freezing fingers while watching the screen.
